FYI: Have a JD3020. Got it used. Started but would always run on 3 for a half minute. Put that Lead Supreme (now Octane Supreme) 130 in my gas since I had it. After a couple tanks through it now, no more starting on 3. Starts on all 4 now. Lead lubricating old valves & making them work like they should???

I'll be danged...I didn't know you could still by additives that actually contain lead. Looked up Octane Supreme 130, they claim it actually has tetraethyl lead (as in "fill it up with ethyl" for those of us old enough to remember).

Kind of expensive, though. $10.00 a quart in case lots, at a reasonable octane increase of 5 points that would add more than 50 cents per gallon.

Wonder how they get that past the EPA?

Keith

EPA? As stated- off road use. Was marina pump near Dubuque that had leaded, airport had 100 octane LL-low lead- that was mixed 1/2 with premium unleaded for hot rod. Drag strip had leaded fuel tank- you pumped it into tank of unlicensed race car on trailer or brought your own can- no putting it in licensed towing vehicle or cars with cats. Couple years ago talked to station man about leaded for 71 Chev pickup- he had it in tank truck for farm delivery, lead additive was put only in tank truck, could fill old cars with leaded out of truck. If they really are using lead & I couldn't find any whimis info regarding Kemco's Lead or octane supreme. The only loophole would be for "off road use". If there really is t.e.l. in the product. Lead fouls out on plugs & leaving deposits. How can the plugs be cleaner with leaded fuel? Try running the same engine on premium unleaded. It will run just as smooth and If the engine was suffering from detonation prior to but not after adding Octane Supreme. Then of course the engine will run smoother when knocking has been eliminated. Oil burning due to ring flutter may have been a source of oil consumption & therefore plug fouling. You wouldn't happen to be selling some of this miracle product? Try some premium unleaded, the engine will run cleaner yet.

Simialr happened to me. When I used to run our Farmall F-12 on my buddy's farm(when I lived in tioga county PA.) every day, I had about the same problem. It never used to run as smooth as it used to, I was constantly cleaning the plugs(2 piece style). The wrench who I was working for at the time told me to put lead additive in it. HEH, I laughed at him. But I'll be d*mned he was right, I put some in the following week and the thing cleared right up. Took it to the New smithville pulls that weekend and took 2nd place.
