Just wondering how many of you would have tractors on display at the Iowa State Fair. I am finishing up the Farmall 300 I am restoring this week so it will be ready. It is entered in the FFA Ag Mechanics competition (class 4). Has been a fun senior/FFA project and will be quite useful around the farm.

I just got done w/ a 560 about a week ago, just in time for the WHO tractor ride, that will also be in the Ag Mechanics competition at the fair. Last year I had a Oliver 77 that I re-did.

So I would assume you have some experience in this competition. Would you mind if I asked what kind of things you are judged on? I ask because there is some controversy as to what a "restoration" entails. I did not rebuild the engine, transmission, PTO, torque-amplifier, clutch, or brakes on my tractor but there was no need to. When I bought the tractor it had been sitting in a barn for 20 years and I did not know for sure what kind of condition it was in. After getting it running, it was decided that everything was in fact good as it was. Also, the paint job is not professional as I did it myself. I figure some time and $150 for paint and supplies is better than a $2000 professional paint job on a tractor that is just going to get scratched up with use anyway. Don't get me wrong, it looks great but there are a couple of runs here and there. I am just a little worried that some of these things might degrade my tractor in the competition a little. What do you think?
