Well my wifes car is an old chev citation. Well she put a hole in the tranny pan so I replaced it today, but it also has one bolt missing in it. I know I used a 1/2 inch wrench to remove the bolts but when I checked the bolts are not 5/16s so do any of you by chance know what size it is????? ??? By the way its an automatic
Thanks

Old,

That's probably a 125-C tranny and every blessed bolt in it is metric. Takes a 13-mm wrench/socket on the pan bolts.

1/2 inch socket worked just fine. Ya there metric and yes its the 125 tranny. Found out today it takes a 8mm bolt with 125 tread pitch so I have a couple now sitting on the will call shelf of the parts store just waitig for me to drive in and pick them up
Thanks

Aloha, Just remove one of the bolts and take it to your auto parts store and match it up if you don't have a screw gauge.

I don't know the correct size but it will be a metric for sure. The Citations came out during the last year or two of HS for me.

When I first looked at your topic, I had thought you recieved a traffic citation in a chevy.

never heard of such a vehicle.

Try an 8mm with a 1.25 pitch.

Just a guess here - Metric? 1/2 inch is approximately 12mm.

accually 1/2in is closer to 13mm. 13mm is just a bit bigger but 12mm is more smaller.

But if he took them out with a 1/2" they must have a head size of 12mm. If they were 13mm the 1/2" socket would have been too small.

A 1/2 wrench fits snug on a 13mm head but it will fit in most cases. All the 12mm I tried a 1/2 wrench on was always too loose to get a grip, not that it can't sometimes.

Using a 13mm wrench on a 1/2 head will grip but is just loose enough to round the corners off so care is needed.

While I'm no professional mechanic I've turned many wrenches for 44 years.
