I would take a second look at that Cole planter. There is a metal plate with a hole in it that goes on top of the flat disc that you spin to tighten the seed plate. It keeps the seed plate from moving and becoming too tight. It is a must have to understand and use. I have had Cole plantes for 25 years and find them to be a reliable planter for things like items from a truck garden. They will reliably plant larger seeds like pumpkin and are considered the king of pumpkin planters.
I wouldn't want to plant 100 acres of field corn with one but two acres of sweet corn or eight acres of pumpkins would be OK.
Be sure to clean and oil the fertilizer unit after each use or get a boat because you will then have a handy anchor to use next year.
