I think tommcd is probably thinking about const equipment parachuted in (which I know nothing about)(every day there"s more things I don"t know anything about!)...but, as to the glider units, there"s a lot of truth in the old story. The Jeeps, crawlers, whatever, was bolted-tied-strapped in in the rear of the glider--behind the men--and if the glider came in too steep, or hit something solid before it slid to a halt...

Cargo chutes are bigger diameter than the T10 steerables (32 foot) that we used. I believe they were 100 foot diameter, and multiples were used, depending on the size of the cargo. Gotta be a boar's nest to get all of them to catch air.

While I was too young to be there, I've been told some of that stuff dug pretty deep holes when the 'chutes didn't work...
