Its actually tractor related cuz I take it to Tractor Shows..... .. I have a 1992 Ford E350 460 CID Fuel Injected and E4OD Tranny with an electric servo (NOT vacuum pancake) Cruise Control. Its already had a new clock spring and the horn and all turn n stop lights n speedometer (and digital odometer) all work perfect. The Cruise Control was working, then it got to where it took 30 mins or so of driving before it worked (but was then fine) n now it quit all together. Anyone had experience with what typically was the first cause (Servo, speed sensor, etc) BEFORE I get the Snap On diagnostic chart to work n take ohms n voltage checks????? ? I recently added an electric brake controller which gets a signal off the brake pedal switch but it still worked AFTER installing that AFTER a 30 min initial non working period. I reallyyyyy yyy need it to work cuz at 58 MPH I recently got 11.13 mpg buttttt ttttt t I cant keep the first wife from driving at 65 to 70 without cruise control and a whip lol

Thanks

Thanks again yall, I spend lots of time giving advice here n it feels sooooo good to get a lil help in return. Sooooo o the speed sensor on the pumpkin was connected by two push together butt connectors with clear plastic cover. I cut them off n stripped n wire nutted the wires good n tight n electrically correct then taped then allowed a drip and expansion flex loop in the wiring n so farrrrr r she is working PERFECT. Only time will tell if I still need another speed sensor and/or the official connector and/or any brake light switches. It has a mechanical push brake light switch on the pedal and another pressure type in the brake line but Im not gonna dig into those as long as the cruise n brake lights all keep working....

Thanks to all again

Recall is now back toooo 92 on the cruise. Strange thing the vehicle will burn not running. Keep out of garage until fixed. Hate to tell, but have 93 F 150. Everyone should have at least one Ford in a life time. Brake lines rotted off as the power steering cooler pipe. Woun't start on the entire list of replaced items. Only 83,000 miles.

Brake pressure switch out on Master Cylinder. They have had a recall on these for connector arching and causing fires . I replaced lots of these for cruise control not working .

I`d run it thru the EECV tests with your snap on scan tool. Could easily be a sensor problem somewhere else on the truck. Outside things to look at are, VSS, TPS, Mass Air Flow, and brake switch. The Vehicle speed sensor is by far the most problematic of the bunch. I can`t remember for sure but on a 92 you could have a speed sensor on the tailshaft of the trans (or transfercase on 4wd) and one on top of the rear pumpkin. On the trans the biggest problem is oil passing thru the sensor messing up continuity, on the rear it`s corrosion or wear in the harness and connector.
Whatever it is diagnosing the early fords stinks, you can`t get any decent live data off a scan tool to watch as you drive it, and they can be a real pain in the butt to throw a code, even with a dead failure. If it does end up looking like a speed sensor problem, it`s often cheaper and faster to just replace the sensor and connector. If you can run it thru the Key on engine off and key on engine running tests and find any codes, I may be able to help narrow it down more.
Good Luck BW

Go figure, I just drove it n low n behold CRUISE WORKED PERFECT TODAY ..... .....

It has a speed sensor on top center of the pumpkin, none on the E4OD tranny or rear tailshaft I found.....

Is it possible for the cruise to not work yet the speedomoter and odometer still work if that speed sensor and/or its connector is at fault????

Im like you, I think Ill buy a new pumpkin speed sensor n clean the connection n see if it keeps working regular as it should ,,,,, I will have my buddy stick his diagnostic on it tomorrow but I doubt if any trouble codes show up grrrrr rr

Thanks

Yeah, it`s possible.
If the vss just glitches at all it should trip a code, and cancel the cruise. The glitch probably won`t be enough to affect the speedo though. If I were you I`d replace the sensor and the connector. You can`t get the connector thru Ford any more, but the standard ignition part # is S699, get it from NAPA or whatever. Solder and shrink tube the connector in -- don`t use butt connectors or scotch locks. Sitting where it does it`s pretty wide open for moisture and road junk. Also follow the harness up to where it meets the main harness at the frame, sometimes you`ll find where it rubbed thru there as well.. If your friend scans it you will probably find a code 452 stored in memory. Insufficient VSS signal...
Hope you get er fixed. BW

Thanks for all the quick help. This afternoon I may remove n clean n check the connector thoroughlly and later see if I can get a new sensor and connector. I just think thats (sensor/connector) the problem from how it acts. It will be tomorrow before my mechanic buddy can scan it.

Ford has had a problem with fires occurring in their vehicles even as far back into the 1970's.
I have an old 1981 Mercury Cougar I hope nothing happens to it. Give Ford a call to see if it's on the recall list. There's millions being recalled. Hal

1. Ford is putting out a big recall on these.
2. Why is "first wife" driving your truck?
