Hi Guys, I recently imported a Massey 2805 and am trying to register it with our licening dept but they need a certificate of conformity for the cab. I have tried my local MF dealership who have contacted MF on your side of the pond but without success. Any ideas where I could get a copy of this certificate otherwise they wont let me take it on the road.
Thanks
Bill

Most safety rules between the US and the EU have been "harmonized" so that certification under EU of rules is equivalent to certification under US rules. I know the FAA and the EU were in the process of doing that when I worked in the aircraft industry(Boeing). I believe that MF is part of the AGCO group so I would try to get the dealer to get of his dead arse and get you the certificate from them.

I believe the cabs in this country are certified to some standard, be it SAE or ASAE because OSHA probably requires it. I have seen films of rollover tests of JD tractors with cabs and with ROPS and I believe these tests are part of the certification process. The conformity certificate merely states the the article was manufactured and has a bill of materials such that the article is conformity with the applicable cerrtification rules and standards that were in effect at the time of manufacture.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the help, I will try contacting AGCO direct to see if they can help. At present I have this tractor sitting in my drive but cannot take it anywhere due to our legislation, apparently if it had been manufactuered prior to 1977 I would not have needed a certificate but unfortunately I have entered the tractor details in their system and cannot now change anything. Things seem much simplier your side of the water.

That's a UK requirement. Its not likely MF in the US will want to certify it at all for UK use. Unless they had a version they exported or built in the UK and the two are built exactly alike.

We don't get certification in the US, and we don't register our tractors so those things aren't often tested. Nebraska Tractor Tests for performance, not so much for cab safety. Some US cabs were noisy coffins.

Not entirely sure but I think M-F has to provide a Certificate of Conformity to be able to sell it in Europe. Yes, it's an EU requirement but those who want to be players in the EU market place have to play by EU rules. What we do here has no bearing on the situation if the product is going to be sold in Europe.

And it can be that the cab delivered on an officially imported tractor in the UK is special to the UK.

Are there ASAE standards for cab structural integrity that might cover this?

I'm sure there are SAE or ASAE standards and roll over protection systems standards actually were Society of Automotive Engineers, not ag engineers standards. Its probably those roll over protection that the UK wants but they will want them in their terms and that translation could be a problem especially if the SAE standards are a few percent weaker than the UK standards.

Other problems could easily apply to the amount and type of glass and the ventilation systems. Not just the roll over strength.

I don't have a recent SAE standard, I don't know the applicable UK standard, and while I understand structural terms, I'm not the engineer to provide that certification. I'm unwilling to take that liability exposure in a field where my education is not intensive like it is in electriccal matters.

The cab structure should have a data plate rivited to it somewhere stating the information you are looking for. If that fails try to find the spec sheet on the tractor. ie; maintinance manual, parts manual, even a brochure.

Hope this helps

Hi Gerald
Thanks for the reply. I suspected that may be the situation but thought I should ask anyway. Dont know how I am going to overcome this little problem, legislation in the UK can be a right pain.
Thanks
Bill
