Pulled that fuel guzzlin' SOB in the shed and locked 'er up. Unless I'm towin' something or making a road trip, the thing can set there 'til he!! freezes over for all I care.

That old Chevy and I both might be old, but we'll still get the work done on half the fuel or less; thank ya very much. :>)

Yeah thats the best place for it. It'll have less warranty claims too! I don't see why us dodge boys would be jealous my 04 3500 gets 21-22 mpg and I haven't seen a ford yet that can pass it with a trailer!

Man oh man, looking at the MPG on some posts makes me shiver! I guess I better get my 49 3/4 ton fixed and quit looking for a newer truck to haul wood in. That ol girl gets 30 MPG with the hard to find factory 17" wheels and 7.50-17 tires. Hauls whatever I put in the bed and goes 65 MPH down the hwy. With the old 15 wheels 60 was pushing it. It is my first vehicle and I have owned it since 77. I had a problem with the oil line that runs through the block on the ol 216. it cracked and dumped antifreeze into the oil pan and trashed a rod bearing and crank journal. anybody got a 49 216 sitting around? I have a dodge dakota V8, 20MPG, but it can"t haul much more than my tool box.

Seems like the new diesels that have to meet stricker emmissions standards don't get the mileage that the old ones do. Not sure why.

Yeah,

I looked long and hard at a Dodge 3500 dulie.

Their diesel tonner was $3K cheaper than the Ford 3/4 ton, but I needed something that would pull and last so went with the Power Stroke.

Probably should have bought another horse. :>)

Yeah,

What am I gonna do with that thing? Can't sell it; nobody would buy it. Can't use it; costs too darned much to run.

Only place it shines is in it's ride and when it's hooked on that trailer. Well, that and it sure shuts those Dodge boys up. :>)

Maybe I need to go into the hotshot business? Naw,that involves too many hours and I'm too old.

Guess it will just have to serve as a garage floor cover to keep the bird poop off the floor. :>)

My fellow Dodge/Cummins boys are just in shock because you had to pull in for fuel again! I have been thinking about some hotshot jobs too, I just can't find anyone who I trust with my truck, it is the first and last new vehicle for me.

I bought a '98 VW New Beetle last fall because of the cost of fuel. Parked the '04 F250 Diesel, it gets 18 or 19 mpg on the commute, but the Beetle gets 48 mpg. Saves me 50 60 bucks a week!

The truck only comes out for heavy hauling now,

Couldn't agree more with you guys. Had an old banged up Mazda four cylinder getting about 22 mph and traded it for a Nissan Titan because the dog need more room to ride along. Its gets 14mph on a good day, is so tall you need to be 6 foot five, (I'm not) to access the bed. Rides nice but can't afford to move it much. Talk about a dumb move but dog loves it. Just wish he had some money.

Allan, it really does make sense to put a lot of your miles on the old truck.. As high as new trucks are, & they ain't gonna get no cheaper, it makes sense to save them for those special occasions.. That reminds me, I gotta get a battery in my old junker truck, and start letting the good one sit & rest a spell..

I got a 94 GMC 6.5 turbo with 5seed auto tranny, got 340,000 on her and getting 17 to 18 mpg that drops to tween 14 and 15 pulling or loaded. Ill drive her til i drop or some one hits it and totally destroys it. Its been wrecked twice (front end) and rebuilt both times. Wife broad sided a Miss. Hwy. Patrol on one of them, thats a different tale altogether tho.

That's because you're probably running 4.10 gears.

If you're running 3.73's or even a 3.08, you're gonna be getting a lot better gas mileage.

My fuel milage backwards to you guys. My 1980 GMC 350 4 speed with high speed rear end was & is hard on fuel. 14mpg best it ever did. Had a 20 mile an hour tale wind.Put a 3 point wheel rake in the back & turned it nose in the wind 3mpg. Avgaround 10. Now my 1990 ford f250 with 7.3 diesel will do 18- 20 empty. Have gotten 14 pullen 16 foot trailer 4 bikes & all our campin gear. running 75 mph on the Innerstate.

I run a 1980 heavy half with auto type tranny gears in it and a 4 speed tranny I get around 17-18 MPG which I figure is pretty good with it haveing a 350 under the hood. I'll run that truck till it falls apart or blows up. Doesn't look all that good but it runs well and does what I want it to

That's about what this one is.

Has 3:08 gears and I put an overdrive locker tranny in it. Usually runs in there at 18 to 20 if I drive like a sane man.

Sure beats the 13 on the other truck.

Although, I gotta fess up. That diesel is one heck of a nice rig and will pull the cleats right outta the hanger bay floor. :>)

Dang !!! I had a 77 Chevy 4X4 (fulltime 4X4) I bought new when I was in college. $5,000.00 off the lot, 78's were already out.. The mileage on it ranged from 6 to 10 MPG... I worked a partime job just to keep gas in it..
