Tractor is old, machine is too. And, Hey! I'm no spring chicken either.

But, we're gettin' 'er done. Old hand-me-down rod works like a charm. :>)

Neat set up! I have never seen one before here in Indiana, but can see how the bacwards rotating square rods would tend to "flip them out". When you run one in a normal situation, do you have to get the ground loosened up first or do the rods handle hard ground ok? I wonder if it would flip rocks out as well?

They are the last tool in the conventional tillage dry land operation.

Ya start deep in the spring and with each succesive pass, you get shallower and shallower until the last pass or two with this guy at about 2".

Yep, they lift the smaller rocks right up out of the soil and lay 'em on top.

Nice part about a rod is that it has just about a 100% kill rate. Nothin' gets by 'em.

That is slick! I wonder how they would work around here. Our farm is leased, but one thing that has bugged me about the no till they have been farming it with is all the spraying that has to be done. In the spring the same ol weeds cover the field and get sprayed, then sprayed again later. That little voice in my head has been saying it can"t be good even though everyone says it won"t hurt it. My gut says different. I like the pics you put up of your place. Can see for miles! When I go to Dads woods there are so many trees over there I have drive 4 miles away just to get a good look at a storm coming. We had a twister go through the woods about 4-5 years ago and I sure wouldn"t want to be there when it happens, trees and tree parts flew everywhere I am still cutting firewood out of that mess. Looks like out there you could see bad stuff coming and have time to get the hatches battened down. At his farm there aren"t as many trees there but in some of the fence rows or where the rock piles are. Are you out near Ogalala? Had to stop there once for repairs.

Nice bonus to include the Nebraska National Forest in pic #2. Guess I've also gotta agree with another poster who was having trouble seeing the weeds.

Looks like the weeds all died of fright before you even got 'er in the field.

Perhaps I'm blind too, but I don't see anything but loose dirt.

Ok Allen, I gotta ask.... What are the 2 drive shafts for, that are coupled to the out side wheels? Looks to be in good shape! The horse out front looks good too.

The working end of the machine is three separate staggered rods so that it will follow the contour of the land.

Three of the tires drive the three reverse-rotating rods via gears and chains. The two outter wheels and the left inner (ya can't see that driveshaft).

I've got that 966 turned up to 115 horse and it just played with it. :>)
