is it common on the 1030 that the sleeves go bad? i have a feeling i have to replace the sleeves on it. thought it was a head gasket but a mechanic thinks the sleeves are junk. how common is this? the old head gaskets are fairly new. do i have toher problems? i have water in the oil. i know it's not the block because i had that checked before.
thanks

You may need to have the engine line bored. alinement can be a problem with Case engines I've had do 405 in a 930 . the 504 in the larger tractors were notoreous for needing a bore job.been there done that

i now remember about the crack in the block now that i'm diggin into the tractor/ it's on the surface after you pull the head off. i had been "fixed" with block sealer. now i gota figure out how to fix this crack or think about finding a new engine or block :( the crack is right on top after you pull the head between the outside of the block and the cylinder. anyone know how i could fix this? it was fine when i bought it but has ben there for longer than i have had it. thanks DF in WI

I have a case 1370 and I'm having similar problems. The block is suffering from cavitation. Did a total overhaul and applied lots of JB weld to repair the block. I use the tractor to run a munure pump and like the tractor, but this is the last repair. It is difficult to get the sleeves installed properly once the cavitation starts. Marv

My grandfather bought a brand new 1030 in 1969. and it cracked NEW sleeves 3 times over the last 38 years. I have an older 66 1030 and hasen't done it in the last 10 years. Both have had mufflers(no straight pipe) I think the block was machined wrong. I think with any vehicle/tractor/implement it just depends on how it was made at the factory.

Sometimes the sleeves need to have the counterbore at the top end remachined. I'd listen to the mechanic, I guess. Seems like you could have another problem such as a cracked sleeve.

the sleeves may not be bad it is the o-rings that seal the sleeves to the block.
