Ok, I got the print up big enough. Thanks. Now, My printer ( HP Deskjet 3910) and Finepix software won't download onto computer. Says that they are not compatible with Vista, need XP instead. Is there anyway to make these work or do I have to buy a new printer and new finepix software? I have the windows XP disc from old computer, wondering if I should get rid of Vista and load up XP? Any thoughts? Thanks, Chris

I've used every OS from MS since win3.1. The best way I've found to install devises on Vista is to wipe it and install XP.

You mean Linux. third party image

Yes, it's very good, it's what I call a proper operating system. Windows is derived from MS-DOS and is riddled with problems of various sorts. I use Linux on an almost daily basis, but I still use Windows XP for most of what I do.

Linux won't run any Windows apps (except via an emulator). Die-hard Linux fans say this doesn't matter, as there are free alternatives to all the usual Windows programs, and many of them come bundled free with the Linux distribution. E.g. OpenOffice stands in for Microsoft Office, and the file formats are supposed to be compatible. "Supposed to be!" as Microsoft doesn't actually reveal details of its file formats, and changes them over time so you have to upgrade.

If anyone's thinking of trying Linux, my recommendation would be Ubuntu Linux, which is currently the most popular distribution. But having used various versions over the years, I reckon they're all much of a muchness.

David

The computer guru up the road loves it..AND..Bill Gates won"t get any money from it...!! Lenox is a FREE download, too...!! He says it runs much faster than any "windows" system, and does not get viruses... Let me know, he about has me talked into changing...!!

Vista should have installed the printer automatically as part of the initial startup.

Go to the link, should be a driver or software to correct your problem.

I would try the troubleshooting link first, may be a simple solution as mine was.

Well, I bought a new Computer about 4 months ago, it had the Vista on it, my Lexmark Printer was not compatible, my picture editing software was not compatible, and so on. I got real lucky, the new Computer blew smoke out of the vents in the Tower, and Wal-Mart took it back.

I had this Computer rebuilt, and put XP Pro on it, but I was surfing ebay 2 weeks ago and bought another new Computer on there, it was cheap, and I just couldn't help it. As of now, it is sitting here still sealed in the original box, just waiting for me to get brave, and get it out and try to use it. The only good thing is, I know what kind of problems that I am going to have, which makes a lot of difference.

Now, first off, you can NOT wipe all of the Vista off with your XP install disk, it will not happen, you will either have to buy a new hard drive, or use a wiper on your Vista hard drive, period. What will happen if you try that, is a huge mess.

Good luck. Lots of things do not have drivers for Vista. Last I heard was no software for Wallmart modem dial-up, this for a Vista computer he bought at Wallmart. I have been running Vista for 6 months on one computer--now I wonder why, don't need the fancy junk. .

Lotsa luck finding a Vista driver for the 3910. HP doesn't have one on their site. Is the Finepix software for a Fujifilms digital camera? If so, I know there are some Vista drivers for certain Fuji cameras. Go to their website and see if there is a driver available for you.

I have done dual OS systems and also switched from one OS to another. If you don't know what you're doing or don't have access to the right drivers for your hardware, you will end up with more problems than you have now.

Why would HP give you a Vista driver when they can make your printer obsolete and gladly sell you a new one???
