I've developed a strange reaction to yellowjacket stings over the past few years. The sting itself hurts for a few seconds, just like always, but the pain is gone within 30 seconds, there is no swelling, and within 15 minutes I can't even tell where I was stung. I do get kind of a warm feeling throughout my body, and the last one, I got a little irritable. Never any effect on breathing or throat, which I understand is the problem with those allergic. I'm thankful for the relief from the usual symptoms, of course (I used to "swell up like a poisoned pup" just like everybody else), but can't help wondering what's going on.

Mike, You better be careful, you might be in the early stages of becoming allergic. Dad had been stung for years by those nasty critters and one year he got into a nest while cutting a tree down. He didn"t swell much, but he got warm and very tired and just wanted to laydown. His color got bad and we packed him up in the car and headed for town. Doc said good thing you got him here quick because his heart rate had slowed way down. I guess when you are born you have a certain tolerance to stings and every sting gets you closer to not being able to take it anymore. Dad never goes to the woods anymore without his bee kit. You might want to go get an allergy test done so you know for sure.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering whether that was the case. Will get a test done, then start carrying a bee kit, I guess.
