My dads 560 Diesel has developed a miss., It started as a miss under load from about 1300rpm on down it would lay out. Then over a period of about two days while using it mowing with a rotary cutter it has gone to a full miss at all times. Neither of us are familiar with a Diesel motor. We had the head checked and planed and a head gasket installed about 2 yrs ago or 250 hours. Could this be a Valve or will a bad injector act like this?? IS there any way we could diagnose before taking it to a repair shop?
Thanks in Advance,

Robert

Yes. Just a matter of thinking things through logically, just like with a gas engine.

1) Compression test- injector would have no effect- same as a gas engine. Or,

2)Find the defective cylinder (loosening injector pipes one at a time, carefully, and find the cylinder which makes no difference to the engine. Change that injector for another cylinder and try again. If defective pot moves with the injector you have forund the problem, if it doesn't, you now know which cylinder to check out - exactly like finding the same on a gas and moving the plug from missing cylinder to a good one.

A compressed air test on the cylinder may well indicate inlet, exhaust or rings if that is the case.

Have you checked valve clearances?

Any fluids in the wrong place?
