Kids came home from school, 10th,5th, and 2nd graders. Asked what they had for discussion on this 9-11, all 3 said not one word was spoken in any class, on the PA, not even a moment of silence. WTF- Something is really wrong here. Kids dont even learn about WW1 or WW2 in school. Are some schools teaching our kids anything about their great country? Email has already been sent to school officials. We dont need to teach hate, but we do need to teach about the thruth about the horrors of the past to avoid more in the future.

As a high school history teacher I spent the whole class period yesterday talking about 9/11. What happened and most importantly how it has affected our lives. I was disappointed that my school didn't do something as a school but I know the other members of my history department talked about this event. A previous post said that they don't even teach WWI and WWII anymore and I caution people not to label all schools and all teachers. Like I tell my students they are good teachers and bad teachers just like tere are good cops and bad cops, good farmers and bad farmers, etc..... .

Have a great day

Well, my kids' school observed it! They call it "Patriot Day" and the kids all wear red, white, and blue AND say a prayer by the flag AND say the pledge of allegiance AND say "Under God" A public school too! How do I know? because the good wife and I pestered all the teachers in the school system for a week to make sure there was a rememberance. WHY? Because in my day job, I am an airline pilot who flies the same airplanes that were used in the attacks and I lost friends and colleagues that day. God Bless America!

I have a retirement job working for the government schools in Kansas and it makes me sick to see the attacks on our rights. Whoever called them indoctrination centers (somewhere else in the thread) had it right. I would quit in disgust but need the job. The only thing that might make any difference would be a mass uprising of good people to tell the politically correct bureaucrats we won't take it any more. I don't see that happening on any grand scale but it makes me feel better to read forums like this one where I see there are still good people out there who know better and who care.

They made an announcement at work that we would meet in front of the building at the flag pole. I went out there and we had a moment for reflection then our boss prayed for the families who lost loved ones and for our leaders. It was a moving experience. I'm like Darryl Worley's song says "If it was up to me I'd show it every day-have you forgotten"

Dave, as a staunch conservative that loves these United States of America more than any political party...don't get me going. I owe our nation plenty, too much to recall, more than I'll ever be able to repay, and I'll never forget, no matter how much the non-mainstream media would like others and myself to forget and even hate our nation. Don't get me going. I'm feeling the blood pressure going up...beep, beep, beep. Its going up. I emailed my Senators last night...beep, beep, beep to knock the horse manure off, except that I didn't use manure, beep, beep, beep or never step another foot on my Indiana soil again. Man that's sickening, and reason for home schooling like some of my younger friends and their wives do through K12 dot com and other venues where they only get reading, writing, and arithmetic without teaching them what I wouldn't tolerate as a parent if I had children.

Sorry all, I've gotta change to another subject. My gasket's going to blow again. BEEP, BEEP, BEEEEE EEE

"Are some schools teaching our kids anything about their great country?"

Yep many things. But nothing that will do anyone good! Just Politically Correct stuffs & how to vote demoquack. Of course, actually teaching these kids about the bravery of the WW2 generation....NO WAY!! If they actually taught History like the Real Teachers did back when I was in school, the kids would ASK QUESTIONS! & They Don't Want That!! So, they 'water down" & 'gloss over" & "revise" history until the kids actually think the USA is the Villain & the Enemy is really the Good Guys! &, of course, they Indoctrinate them to think that All Good Comes From The Government! "Schools" nowadays are just Indoctrination Centres 4 the Left Wing!! Nuff Sed!! CC, who was taught History by a REAL WW2 Veteran, who won the war in his glider!!

I was doing some work in a school on 9/11. We were advised NOT to tell the students what was going on, But you can bet they knew SOMETHING was going on.

I don't believe anything was said in my children's school either, but we will surely be discussing things a bit around the dinner table tonight!

My sixth graders and I observed a minute of silence this morning after the pledge of allegiance -- and yes we say "one nation under God."

Unfortunately we didn"t have time to discuss the events of that tragic day.

Did not have time to discuss it? I guess it must not have been important enough to plan for!!!

1. It is not listed in the state standards.
2. The class behavior overall was poor.
3. Some parents requested we not discuss it as it brings up hurt and angry feelings that kids do not know how to deal with.

I feel it is important enough to plan for, but unfortunately I do not own a private school and I must adhere to other people"s rules.

Don't any of them have a history class? Seems like pretty important recent history.
