Go with the Oliver 60. I've had three of them (still have two) and they are great for light work around the place.

Having owned and driven both, and being a John Deere person by heart, I still have to say the Oliver 60 is way more tractor than the H John Deere. Both are neat little tractors, but to use, go with the Oliver. You won't be sorry.

It depends on if you are hooked on the putt putt sound ? Get them both and then sell which one you like the least.

Around here in SE MN there sure weren't many H Deeres. Seems to be pockets of 60 Olivers yet around. The H had problems with the cam cause the tranny is driven off it. Not much of a tractor in my view but if the price is the same then get the H cause the Deere boys go nuts over them and you could make enough money to but a couple 60 Ollies at least.

Neither one will pull much. Both are comparable in Hp. Drive em' both and pick your favorite. Both neat little tractors that are easily transported to shows because of their small size. A lot of 60's still out there - I would think the H would be more collectible in Deere country especially.

The JD H is twice the tractor it apears on paper. For raking hay with a 9' wheel rake I've used nothing better. My brother would load the wood wagon so heavy tht front would start to lift and the drawbar would sag. No joke. I've never used an Oliver 60, but my father's 550 can't keep up with my Farmall Super H...just out perform my Super C. Father's 1600 can only match my Super H in drawbar work. Both Olivers have hinky shifters too. So unless the 60 is a completely different animal I'd have to vote twice for the JD H. Mike

Aw come on! a 1600 can only keep up with a super H? What color is the sky in this little world that you live in?

I"m wondering how the Oliver 1600 can only match the Super H in drawbar work? The 1600 was rated at 47 drawbar Hp, 58 PTO Hp, 12 forward 4 reverse tranny, independent PTO, and weighed in at 7300lbs+. The Super H was rated at 22 drawbar Hp, 31 PTO Hp, 5 forward 1 reverse tranny, transmission style PTO (not live or independent), and weighed in at 3875lbs. In my neck of the woods these two tractors were not in comparison. The Oliver 77 and Super H were comparable models.

If you had a really good log chain and put one tractor on each end of it and took off, by the end of the day all you would have left is the Oliver 60 and the log chain.

For horse power compairson the Oliver is with the Deere B that was made at the same time and the Deere H was a smaller tractor that Oliver did not have a model that small to compaire to.

You've gotta be kidding. Was a JD H a tractor? Those Oliver 60s were a gem. Broken frames on 'em? Not on any I've ever seen.

The frame problems depend on the year it was made. The later ones had stronger frames and re-enforcement, they didn't have problems. I like both tractors but for all around work, I would take the Oliver. Early ones had a four speed trans and the later ones had a five speed.

For one thing, Oliver 60's had frame problems which left about 5% of them that are not broken today.

I have both, an Oliver 60 and a John Deere H. I'm going to say get the "H" for parts availablity and sheer fun to drive. (although the tight station can get a bit uncomfortable)
