I salesman for the local Ford dealer told me the new 6.4 liter diesel trucks run at reduced power for 500 miles for break-in, this is supposed to be controlled by the engine computor. Has anyone seen this?

Naw,

I think what he meant was that "sometime" within the first 500 miles, the computer is programed to run thru it's first regeneration cycle of the exhaust system and you might notice a reduction of power while this is going on.

It will feel kinda like you're back in a 7.3 again; a drop in power and more engine noise.

He's telling you this so it won't take you by surprise when it happens. After the truck gets a few miles on it and the engine is loosened up a bit, you won't even notice it if that function should happen to cycle.

Have fun,

Allan

How do you tell when a saleman is lying, when he opens his mouth..... .. Hes a salesman, not a service man. If you have any doughts, simply call the service department.Dont you have an owners manual, or has Ford gotten so cheap they include them anymore?

My '08 has 3000 miles on it, and it doesn't feel a bit different than it did when new. I had my gooseneck behind it at 200 miles- plenty of power.
