What tractor would be the best choice to put money into and beef up to pull with? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The ones with the cheapest parts and the most interchangability of parts because you will need a lot of them. JD can win but will break the bank to do it. I would say Oliver or Farmall for the reasons stated above, not because I like them. I still say a "smart" man with a little money and a "G" JD will out pull the "bankrolled" "M" who thinks the money will win. Seen it many times. Get your education first , then spend the money.

I would hunt down the guy who brings that beat up old MM to the Polk county fair pull, it out pulls everything in sight and looks like a refuge from the garbage pit.

Being an Oliver man,I sure want to say an Oliver 88. But,I have to admit the Farmall Ms around here sure give us Oliver guys fits.

i have 2 that are good. i have a IH 1066 turbo and a farmall M. they both have money stuck into them but the 1066 is all worth it. it's got like 200 hp at the moment i'd say to find an old JD A and put a little work into it. don't feel bad about getting it above stock specs since everyone else in the stock classes is souped up. the M weighs 5500 but it still has the cast wheels, hyd pump and light bar on it. you take that stuff off and you could easily get it in 4500. i just oull 5500 and 7000 with it. it suprisingly does better in 7000. it all depends how much you are willing to spend on the motor. the M just had minor mods. just dome pistions and bored a little. the 10 on the other hand has thousand into it.
all depends on what's in your pocket. also tke into consideration if you want to spend all that money on the tractor just to have it sit in the shed between pulls. mine still serve as farm tractors
just my $0.02

Have to agree, a 1066 is probably easiest. Just turn the pump up and get 200hp, and if it breaks its a small loss. :>) However its kind of boring watching about 10 of them pull in the class waiting until I get a turn with my JD 5020. I added a turbo and turned the fuel up, but with that little Stanadyne pump its probably still only about 200hp. I dont feel guilty about adding the turbo, considering the small injection pump. I can beat some and lose to some. The tractor gets used on the farm too. About $6500 total investment.

My self I would go with an Oliver. You can find them for a good price and that 6 cylinder is hard to beat. As the old saying goes Oliver for the tough pulls and I have found that to be true. Plus if you go with say a 77 its easy to upgrade then with 770 parts and really make them pull hard

I pull IH,Oliver and M&M.The Molines are the easiest to build up with their stock parts if you want to pull antique. If you want to blow smoke I'd go with the IH 66 series.

Depends on the Weight Class but for Farm Stock My personal choice would be for the 40 year old class, a 190 AC Gas. For older than that an Oliver 88 would be a likely choice. The AC has a lot of hidden potential with it's 6 Cyl Engine as does the Oliver. A 4 Cyl Engine has only so much potential before it gets in Hazardous Territory.

I have been around pulling for most of my life and I would suggest one of the following, M, H, 300, 400 Farmalls,U MM (These are fairly cheap to build up)I have also seen some pretty good Zs & Rs, Oliver 66, 77, 88 (diesel or gas).
I am a JD fan but lets face you can spend lots of money on two cylinders and still get beat. Just my two cents worth.

come on, thats what we like to hear.

Okay, enought converting people. I know nothing about it, but I would stick with an M, realativly cheap, powerful and heavy.

Just duplicate the winner of the next pull. I doubt if a serious answer can be given

You could also try posting on the Tractor Pulling board if you have not already.
