Which one guys and why? I have a 450 and it has been a curse. Always afraid of the wobble drive on deere 350 worked on plenty of them: but Nh sure has issues too.

Always liked the balanced head IH, but my favorite mower was a JD 39 - a 3 point version of the 38. It was a belt drive pitman type but it mowed very well with 2 stub guards on the inside end of the bar and regular 2 prong on the rest of it with the outer end shoe removed. But the breakaway didn't trip when it needed to and the bar got bent and twisted, and I haven't been able to find another one running or for parts. Lee

We have both and use NH 451 with stub guards. The john deere will be repaired if we can find some stub guards to replace the slip in ledgers . hands down for our mowing the NH works best. However I think its the haybine guards.

I've run both and I'd take the JD 350.

In my experience the IH pitmanless drive has been the most bulletproof when properly serviced and not overgreased inside the case.

Also, most people that I know using mowers have either IH or the Rowse double 9" with IH heads on it.
