Fill the radiator to the top over flowing, leave cap off put that tractor under a load then add water to keep cooling system at top if you see any bubbles coming though then its the head gasket.

Give us a model. Gas or that neat little 2-cyl Isuzu diesel?

I never heard of a Bolens with a 2 cylinder Isuzu diesel - but we sold them new with Iseki diesels.

Well, now I asked about that a while back. He's got a Bolens 244 with a tag that crosses it to an Iseki 2220F, but the engine model info is stamped on an Isuzu tag. And, while it's painted and decaled for Bolens, there is an Iseki decal on each side.

I'll spare you the details of what I went through trying to find him a water pump this past summer, but learned along the way that any number of companies put their name on that basic tractor over a span of years.

You sold 'em and I'm not averse at all to being corrected, but the understanding I got from the whole experience was that Iseki was a make of tractor, and that the engine, at least in this case was an Isuzu, about like a Yanmar in a Deere.

Never had to research it much, so I can't say for sure - about the Bolens, Iseki, and Isuzu. I know when we got parts for the two and three cylinder engines, they were branded as Iseki. But, I also worked on some four-cylinder Iseki boat motors that were made by Isuzu. I think they swapped motors or shared licenses. Yanmar makes both engines and tractors - and when it comes to the Deere 650s, 750s, 850s, etc. - every part is made by Yanmar.

When we were selling the Bolens with the two-banger diesels, we also were selling Satoh diesel tractors about the same size - and those has little diesel engines were made by Mitsubishi of Japan.

Yep, that all pretty much jibes with my ordeal looking for that pump. Iseki doesn't keep it anymore, and I made quite a few inquiries before somebody put me onto an outfit down in Connecticut that deals in pars for Isuzu engines.

Seems that engine had a lot of applications, including ag and marine, and there were several ways to route the coolant around, depending on the application/installation. When it came, the pump had a plate on the back for the pump outlet. When we peeled the old one off, you could see on the face of the block where there were other ways for the coolant to go, which means the outlet in the plate would have been in a different spot. One pump, two or more different plates for routing the outlet is what I'm trying to say.

The counter guy on the phone was pretty particular, but he was able to take the engine ser# to Isuzu and find out which configuartaion this engine left the factory with.

It's a nice little two-banger. Tractor hydraulics are a little slow, but I'm pretty impressed with the work the neighbor can do with the little fella!

People on the garden tractors board may be able to help you more then me. Yes it does sound stupid, but what is the story with your exhaust? does the pipe come into contact with the block or anything right near the block, if the system has been replaced/ajusted/altered?? Wish I could be of more help.
