OK... so not tractor related...but what farm doesnt have a shotgun?... the gun came to me by my great grandfather... who got me started into old tractors even though he passed on before i got the bug, his old tractors he left bit me... anyways... he had an old western arms corp. 16 gauge double barrel shot gun... it was in the house and hidden... (not a real shock) he always hid things...

My question is, i searched the internet and couldnt find anything really on them. does anyone have one? when were they made? what are they worth? im not looking to sell it... just trying to get insurance on all my guns... and its not in bad shape but not prestine either... would you leave it as is? or have it redone? i know an older gentleman here that does excelent work. I know its off topic but hey... yall know everything here, thanks for any help on this one...

Hey Brad. The gun you mentioned has a value of somewhere in the $150 to $200 range in used condition. I would suggest that you keep it in its original state and keep it dry and clean as a memory to your gramps. Maybe someday the 16 guage will come around as an oddity collector's item but not yet. I have a J.C. Higgins 12 guage that my dad bought new and hunted with. I would not spend a dime on it but I will never sell it.

They were made by ithica in NY as a contract/store brand. (i have one in 16 also) Value as a rule $200-400. Less if rough don't know if there were select grades in them, if so maybe more.

Western Arms Corp. Was a division of Ithaca Gun mfg, from 1929 to 1946.

Am going off of a feeble memory but weren"t they made for Western Auto stores?? If so they were "probably" made by Savage/Stevens as mentioned previously, along the Model 311 style. Might try GunParts.com of New York for a value. Look over the barrels to be sure they aren"t "Damascus" barrels, if so can"t use modern ammo. Being a 16 gauge they are probably okay.

I think that was a Montgomery Wards (private brand) sold gun manufactured originally by Ithica Arms. Someone will correct me if I'm off base.

The Montgomery Ward gun was called WESTERN FIELD

Not to worry about off topic - guns are as much a farm tool as any other. When you need 'em, you need 'em!

Hey Brad, I think western arms shotguns were made by savage/stevens. They made shotguns that a lot of different companies put their name on. You might look up savage/stevens on the net and see if you can find one that looks like yours. Hope this helps, Mike B.
