How are prices in other areas. Here in the Mobile area I have been getting between .40 to .75 cents a pound. The reason I ask is because after selling a load I went to a local grocery store that was selling shelled pecans @ 5.98 for 12 ounces. If that is going retail for the end product I think we are getting ripped.

Here in N.C., this is not a large growing area, but the Easter freeze wiped the pecans out. Same in upstate S.C.

You can make more money by taking them to the farmers market and now is the time of year when you will get the most money. Have you thought about setting up your own road side stand or a sign in front of your house"Pecans For Sale".There are options for making more money.

I am going to consider "roadside" selling. I would like to get more than I am getting from the area wholesalers. I may even give some away out of spite. A few of my co-workers made comments that pecans were too expensive to buy to make pies, and the pies were too expensive to buy. The bakery at the local Wallie world-$9.48 for a pecan pie.

If you lived closer I would buy 25 lbs of the unshelled pecans. Hal
PS: In 1981 I spent almost a month in Huntsville
and they were selling pecans along the roadside like they do garden veggies here in MD. Sure made you fell at home down there. I took the wife along in Feb 1982 and it was about 90 degrees
and we called our daughter at home and she had been out shoveling snow.

Shelling is the expensive part of pecans. Also, a lot of weight is lost in the shells. Store price is kind of rich, though.
