A torch and a welder. Like a friend of mine used to say, "give me a torch and a welder and I can fix just about anything."

Bandaids? I think electrical tape works better, seals the leak.

Sorry, but WHY would you want a TV in the shop? A stereo yes, but a TV? Thats half of what I'm escaping from.

About 20 1/2", 9/16", and 5/8" wrenchs and sockets of varying drive sizes. I can never seem to find any ofthose when I need them, but they are in my way when I dont.I swear I put them all up when I am done.

If you are going to have beer be sure to have a cell phone attached to your wrist so you call for help because sooner or later you will need it.

An over head crane at least 5 to 10 tons. WOW!!

A good picture of Marilyn Monroe.

Fridge to keep the beer cold and also to freeze stuck bolts on things that will fit in there. I know one thing to NOT keep in there. Mamas yard sale crap. I swear that stuff breeds itself into a bigger pile as time goes on.

Iowa corn and hogs, The confinment hog smell goes to the bone on anything that enters the hog building. Should have a mud room before the new work area? Lighting is a good start for the first question. No adult beverages during power tool operation or it just turns into that, a quick ride for an operation. Good for the end of the day installing a cool one.

I have a 45X60, heated. Building a 20X45 addition for an office and employee breakroom.Trusses are up--hope to have it enclosed by end of next week. Things to have in the main shop:
Obvious stuff like welders, torch, good drill press, heavy vice, metal-toped workbench, etc. Also BIG air impacts, cordless impacts and drills, roll-around tool cabinet with some sort of table/worksurface attached,posi-lock gear pullers,cherry-picker or larger hoist, torque wrenches, about a dozen vice-grips, tap and dies, 2-stage air compressor with large tank,

And the most important thing: a large broom and the mindset to keep the shop clean. No beer here--I keep it in the house away from the tools--not a good combination in my book.

I am currently trying to figure out what is wanted in my new addition. Here is what I know I'm adding to the office/breakroom so far.
2 desks in an L-shaped configuration--1 for computer/internet and one for paperwork. Windows looking out onto main shop area. Washer and dryer to get the filthy hog clothes out of the house. Plenty of filing cabinets.Phone in each room, Big table that several people can sit at at same time. Sink, microwave, fridge, coffemaker. Old couches/comfy chairs for some after-hours relaxing(may bring the beer in from the house if no one gets in to it during the day). Maybe a TV. SIGN ON THE DOOR TO THE NEW ADDITION THAT SAYS MANURE-LADEN FOOTWARE MUST BE REMOVED BEFORE ENTERING.

Can hardly wait until it is done.

Iowa, How about a toilet/bath too? Since you will have, Hot & Cold running water for the washer/dryer anyway! Later,
John A.

Thought about the toilet--decided against--another sep room to heat and another bathroom to keep clean were the deciding factors against (and the cost of a septic tank).
New addition is configured so that a person has to enter the main shop area first--there will be no door from the outside directly into the new area---this should help keep the hog manure out for the most part--but we MUST NOT have any cloth chairs--know the must be vinal to keep hog dust and dirt in general from getting imbedded into upholstery.

This will be a long-awaited and much-needed upgrade for us. We are doing the work ourselves so had to pick corn until now---so must freeze our butts off building it. I tell the guys it will make us appreciate it even more.

Two things you could add to that shop is a metal lathe or two and a bridgeport vertical milling machine. Add these items and we would have two identical shops.

I've got TWO! Working on getting my '58 loaded on your old trailer at my folks' house so I can take it to my house and tinker with it over the winter. Your old '68 IH is next on the list. That old girl is only runnin' on 6 cylinders these days though. I think it's cranky that I moved out and I don't run it like I used to.
