Toy tractors on display

I've collected a few toy tractors over the years, and a while back, I bought a curio cabinet to display them and finally put it together yesterday. My Question to you, do you save boxes they came in or just take them out and display? I don't plan to sell any, when I kick the bucket, they will go to grandkid ('s). At the toy shows, a lot are still nib and they seem to be worth more. If I leave them in the boxes, they take up a lot of room, and not sure I have the patience to out another cabinet together. Do you guys save the boxes? Chris

I have all my boxes. Resale value is more if you have the original box. Storing the boxes is a pain, however, especially for the high end models that come in a styrofoam packing box. The cheaper toys usually have boxes that can be folded down flat.

Having the box can double the price of an old toy, so I expect that as time passes this will remain true for the new toys. Unfortunately I'm trying to live with this belief and have boxes everywhere. I bought a couple of Super 99's, but they were produced by Franklin Mint and are 1/12th scale. Great detail, but wish they were 1/16th since everything else except the combines is 1/16th.

We've got one whole room shelved floor to ceiling with about 350 of them. They are all out of the boxes,but I've saved them. They're in another room. I really don't know why I keep 'em. They make me nervous as a fire hazard.I don't plan to ever get rid of 'em,but the kids might need the money after I kick the bucket I suppose.

If you have any inkling that someone somewhere might want to sell these toys, newness, and unblemished packages are very desirable. Adds to the value in any collector's eyes!

I don't have a lot of them but these two are my favorites because they are the hardest to find. Just try to get a Case LA model I found these two on Ebay and payed dearly for them.

That my friend is a definate yes keep every box without doubt. I would strongly suggest a extra insurance policy for them, and you will probably be required to list them. I live in a very very small town, and had my collection stolen ten years ago. Never in a million years would I have even thought of that happening, but it did. I video tape all toys as they are unboxed, so I can put everything back to original. I actualy thought I had canceled my insurance, (it realy did not cost much) but took the time to look and it's a good thing I did. I was way underinsured, but did get a decent check from the insurance company--with little hastle actualy. I still go to toy shows and look for them, as some had serial numbers. That is my only ace in the hole if I ever do find them. I would also suggest photos to give to the investigating officer.

I have started collecting 1:16 toys, and I plan to not even take them out of the boxes. In buying them from eBay and other places, I've noticed that NIB (new in box) or MIB (mint in box) toys will bring more money than without a box.

When I get moved into my new house and get a display set up, I'll share pictures...

I keep all the boxes.

I have seen an empty box bring $600. But it was from a JD pull type combine made in the late 50's.

I don't have a C and don't know if they ever made them.

I do have a Super C narrow front and they still are available.

I have a couple toy tractors (a couple hundred actually) I have several display cabinets which I keep rotating the displays in. I keep ALL my boxes and the packing material. I figure if some worker in a third world plant can put it in the box so can I! Taking them out and putting them back is part of the fun. Kind of reminds me of Christmas when I do it. In fact that is often when I change things in the displays, if Santa was kind enough to send me a new toy. I have seen over the years that toys WITH the box are MUCH more valuable than those without. On the other hand I do suspect that the value of these toys will decrease as time goes by as there are so many of them and so few youngsters that will remember farm toys as we do. Any value will be more personal as in who owned them than in what condition they are in. Still in all I think a comple toy AND the box is worth more. I sure would like to find old toys from the past WITH the boxes wouldn't you?
