'Taint much,

But, I did get that broken door glass fixed today. That has been botherin' me like crazy!

Question: The idler pulley for the hydro. Can't see any keepers of any sort. Does that bearing assembly just press out of the hub?

Don't tell me they're gonna make me buy the whole pulley? :>(

Allan I hope you don't run across one of your old girl friends from the 80's and bring her home. Just kidding I know you are smarter than thet. Now to the bearing If there is no snap ring, it may just be a press fit. As someone previous, said heat it up and it should press out. Looks like you are having fun. stan

I don't know much about combines, but that pulley has been balanced, it is going to be expensive to replace, methinks. I really enjoy your projects!!

What do you have shorts all waded up about. The guy is getting a piece of the past up and running again. All I do is work on old stuff, and really enjoy it. Have a drink and go to bed. Stan

Allen,

If I remember correctly, (gittin' harder & harder) there is a spiral ring holding that bearing. Same as a snap ring only thinner and wraps around about two or three times. Should be a notch in the outside end that you can get a screwdriver behind and work it outa there. Also, I think the pivot end of that arm can be bored to a bigger size and you can sleeve the pin to accomodate the larger bushing. Drill and tap the end of the pivot pin for a 1/2" capscrew and use a capscrew and heavy washer to hold it together.

I could be all wet, too!

Wire brush th bejebers out of the bore, Look at it with a hand lense to see the rounded edge of the bearing outer edge on the bore, warm up the hub to cant touch it temp with a propane torch, and press it out. JimN

Okay,

I can see a tiny little, looks like a "tin lip" around the very edge of the bearing. Doesn't look like any kind of a "keeper" that I'm aware of tho.

I'll talk to parts first and see if they have just the bearing or how they usually handle it.

The way I see it, if it was pressed in, it can be pressed back out. Better start soaking in your favorite penetrant. If a Gleaner bearing isn't available I'm sure we can find you one that'll fit.

Told my friend George who runs the parts department to start ordering F2 parts 'cause I was gonna need a truckload of 'em.

He says, "Chances are I've already got what you'll need". :>)

They are usually pretty darned reasonable on bearings. Kinda worried about those big mainshaft dudes tho. Those honkers are growlin' big time. :>(

I haven't done a lot of work on F2 to small for this area. I would bet it will press out. Some had a snapring to remove first. Can look in book tomorrow. Neil

Went over and looked at the old F.

It is basically the same except it has a stamped/riveted pulley instead of the cast. No snap-rings 'er nothing on that one either.

I've got to do something about it's arm/pivot pin also. That thing was givin' me fits when I owned it before. Runs crooked on the pin and now of course, has wobbled out both the eye of the pivot arm and the darned pin as well.

Don't know how I'm gonna handle that one yet, 'cause that pin is welded into the back side of that big transmission mounting plate.

Oh well, one day at a time I guess. :>(

you can grind the weld off that holds the pin and replace it with a shaft the right size. check to see what a new arm cost. you can have a eye made and weld on the old arm.
