What do you people up north wear when the weather gets cold and you have to be outside like driving your tractor or something? Down here n the south it got down in the thirty's and forty's and some rain and I can't get out in it because that is cold, but our humidity is a lot higher and they say we have a damp cold,I was wondering what kind and how many pairs of clothes yall wear to stay warm. Thanks

if i have to plow snow with 730 or skid loader or feed round bales to cows i put on t shirt, fannel shirt, fannel lined jeans, thermal lined hooded sweat shirt, then my bib overalls, insulated cabells jacket. this year i bought an ear lap baseball cap, which felt good today as windy as it was. oh, i stuff the jeans and bibs into pait of boots. after all that i plow snow and still manage to freeze my but!

Coldest place I ever worked was Stockton, Cal in the foggy winter no sun for days on end and cold and wet and just plain miserable. Wore everything I had in my closet and still it was cold. My ex-wife's mother gave me a red nylon knit sweater that I wore e very day for 5 years and it still looks good today. Boy it was warm under all those other things. Walt

Wool keeps you warm wet or dry. Still hard to beat. First order of business is to eat a good breakfast. Your goal should be around 2500 calories if it's real cold. (Minus 30 F) A little less if not so cold. When I'm hunting in the kind of weather you're talking about I usually wear a ski base layer, not heavy weight, with wool on top of that and then waterproof gear on top. Very little heavyweight clothing. When we work in the woods in the winter, if the temp is above zero it feels too warm. That's heavy work, of course. For super cold weather in the wind we throw something like a sheepskin mackinaw over the top of everything. Snowmobile boots are hard to beat for warmth because they use a wool felt liner. Chopper mitts with wool liners are great.

Well it makes about as much sense as most of them, i.e. what do you buy your wife for xmas, worst tractor best tractor, what kind of gun, nra member? and so on and so on. Most are not tractor related and need to be on TALES or somewhere else. It"s nothing like it used to be just city girls or I mean boys.

Well I am sorry,I just hate winter time but I needed some good advice from the experts that really know what cold is-what I callcold ya'll could probably wear short sleeve shirts in. The hooded jackets sounds like a good idea never owned one but may try and find one and see if that will help. Thanks

In the 30's & 40's the last few days, everyone out enjoying the nice weather before it gets cold. :)

Jeans & long sleeved shirt, with a hooded sweat shirt, then uninulated coveralls, boots, and a cap with ear flaps. I have much difficulty wearing gloves & working, so I go as thin as I can, but dang it my hands are about the only thing to go cold, so have to compromise...

This is good to about zero degrees, below that I bundle up more & work outside less....

The layers are good for going in & out of a tractor cab or the unheated barn etc. Can open a zipper or 2 & cool off.

If you go out in the cold & stand there, you chill up. If you bundle up & go work in the cold, you sweat up & that _really_ gets you. Layers are the way to go.

I like to go to auctions, there you stand out in the cold with little movement for 3 hours or so. There the insulated coveralls, heavy jacket over the hooded sweatshirt, heavy gloves & all is a must. I could not work in that stuff, even 10 below tho, I would sweat up.

As soon as my neck gets moist & then I get cool - I'm a goner, will be sick in 2-3 days. Happens all the time to me. I'd rather be cold than too hot in all the garb & sweat myself up.

When it's really cold? Insulated coveralls, a heavy hydro parka, leather chopper mitts with wool liners a toque, and insulated pack boots. Then when I get in the cab, I shed the toque, mitts, and unzip the parka and coveralls. I run a tractor everyday feeding my cows and I'm not crazy enough to do that without a good cab.

To us Minnesotans cold is when it's below 0 degree's. When it is"cold" I ussually wear a pair of thermal jon's, a pair of insulated jeans, a snowmobile jacket, chopper mitts, and a mad bomber hat. When it is REALLY cold I throw on a pair of insulated coverall's and toss some handwarmers in the chopper mitts.

Miss Gundy: It's been close to 6 years since you first appeared on YT, and if your still Miss, your obviously not the person to ask anyhow. We can assume you know very little about snuggling to keep warm.

Well up here in NW ND our winters can be surprizingly very nice some years but then on occasions the mercury can drop as low as 40 below with the wind blowing strait outta he!!.
And when it does you grab what ever you can but i usually start with a heavy shirt and a hooded sweatshirt, then a good heavy pair of new car hart coveralls,,bibs let in to much air,,then a good heavy hooded jacket and then i got a big ol hooded parker i save for those special occasions..LOL
And for boots i got an old pair of WW2 air craft fleece lined boots that are maybe size 20 so i just ware them over my other boots that are big enough for my wool socks.
then just go out there and keep moving but not so much that you start to sweat and you can survive for hours.

Mn. can get to 20 below zero so on that kind of day I wear 5 shirts and t-shirts, long jons, 2 pair socks, insulated coveralls, flapper cap and chopper mittens. If there is wind I will wear a heavy coat on top of all that.

If it's sunny out in the 20's or warmer, just a T-shirt, hooded sweatshirt, and my heavy Carhart-like jacket.

If it's dark out or below the 20's, or I'm gonna be going up & down the road, I'll throw on the Carhart coveralls instead of the jacket and a winter hat. Pretty much wear my steel toe boots all winter long. They can get cold but I haven't had any problems yet....

I might wear long johns, but most times I'd rather not.

Pretty soon I gotta put the weather brakes on our 165 and probably the 285. I got one for the 1855 but we try not to run it in the winter...

Call me a sissy, but I put on panty hose underneath a pair of long underwear. This gives an ever so thin layer of air between the skin and the underwear. It keeps the legs warm. On top I put a thin long sleeve teeshirt underneath the insulated top. Same thing. Thin layer of air twixt the skin and the longjohns. That layer of aid makes up for not having to wear the bulk of a lot of heavy clothing.
