We are restoring an Allis Chalmers what we think is a "B" The serial number tag has the letter "C" before the numbers. This tractor hast he wide front on it. From the pictures I have looked at on this site the B"s were all wide fronts and the C"s were narrows. Am I correct?? Or does the C in front of the Serial number have no bearing? Thanks for any help to this young restorer!!

We had a C that we put a wide front end on, wasn't that hard to swap but had to go with the B steering box. Also front plate from the B needed to have two holes drilled in it to accomodate the C cultivators, took about half a day to swap out the front ends. The WFE we used was a high arch out of an older B

Allis C and B WFE in reply to Johnny Horter, 11-27-2007 21:34:41
OK Johnny, here are both tractors with there respective wide front ends. Pictures are worth a thousand words. Steering and front ends for both Allis B and C are different. I can't see as to how one could swap front ends from B to C, but I guess anything can be done. Anyway hope this helps you ID your particular tractor.

Could be a C transmission and final drives connected to a B engine and front end. Have seen those also.

First off neither Allis B or C has a serial # tag the # is stamped in the torque tube. Its probably a C with a B front end and steering column a common modification. Also there a some very different combinations that have been put together over the years

The serial # is not stamped into the torque tube. It is stamped into the front part of the transmisson case. Picture below shows where the location of the Allis B and C serial # is located. HTH

Nope, some C's have adjustable wide front ends. If the serial # starts with a C, then it is what itis. Also the steering arm of a C faces up where as the B the steering arm on faces down.
