My wife was with me at a couple of shows last summer and saw some small crawlers and said (quote) Gee, Honey, those are cute, you need one.
Would like to have one to play with, but have bills to pay.I should use extra $$ from farm to pay down bills, but we are getting by and making all payments now. It's not very often that I get told I need something and to go buy one. Would like to have a Cletrac or Oliver, but then down below I see the the Agricat for sale and that would be easier on the budget and to move around. What to do? What to do? Chris

Ya should have bought that OC4 diesel that I turned down a year ago. Had an AC Anderson blade and all. Could have got it home for $750. Now,getting it restored and usable, you probably would have LOST the farm.

CleatTracks and early if not all Small Olivers (OC3) have no clutched turning, just brakes. They are not good manuvering in tight places. JimN

Opinion,Yes them little"Cats" are kinda cute and neat,BUT do you"need" a crawler?Downside I see on tracked tractors is their mobility, slowness, need to be trailered almost everywhere they need to go,damage to lawn, garage floor,yard..higher maintenance cost of driveline, etc.
Lotta crawlers of all sizes sittin in fencerows and backlots of the country where they just got to be too much of a burden for their owner. Now don't get me wrong..if you really need, want or"have to have" a crawler,Go For It,but if twer me,personally I'd look for something else"unique",with wheels :)

Then my wife must not be a real woman. She has never seen any reason to spend a lot of money on shiny rocks to validate our committment to each other.

Sleep factor! When you close your eyes and drop off to sleep you are at comfort with the cash flow.

Dont know the extent of your expenses and what bills you have to pay. . . but Id take your concerns into consideration everytime I look at a new machine/tractor/anything for that matter. I always like having a bit of money stored away as a buffer to pay bills etc for situations that are unexpected (car motor blows up, etc). Credit cards are always paid off (used for convenience, not credit), and I always try to save a little for someday if I get to the age I can retire. Above and beyond that I take into account the expense Ill have in the project once I get it home (crawlers and undercarriage can get expensive), how much Ill be able to use/enjoy the machine once I have it (too many and some get neglected and crawlers are tough to drive around as they tear up the lawn), and lastly I take into consideration if I have to sell the machine how quickly will I be able to do it and will I be able to sell it for what I have in it. . . Not trying to encourage/discourage you in any way. Just some of the things I think about when it comes to my toys. I know my wife gets annoyed when she sees a new project hauled in or a check written for a new tractor. . . just wish she would understand that its some of the tractors Ive bought/sold over the years that have paid off some of the bills she has run up. . . Just remember you cant take it with you and have fun with it while you can. Dave.

I pay bills before buying unnecessary things. No regrets yet.

Everybody's situation is different so, don't go by what I say but, I won't by a tractor unless I have the money for it and have my bills paid. I have passed on some tractors that I really wanted because I had other bills to pay. As much as I wanted those tractors, I'm not sorry I passed on them. It is always a good feeling when I by a tractor and know that I've taken care of my obligations before buying an uneeded toy.

Good general idea, tho my wife would about spit rocks if I got her a diamond. She has no use for jewelery, only the 2 rings a while ago.

Got her a tractor a while ago, she was pretty happy with that. Tho I used to enjoy plowing, kinda miss it now.....

Show three pics to your wife: an arbitrary but nice looking Cletrac, an arbitrary but nice looking Oliver and the Agricat. Tell her your preference and then just listen ;-)
Good luck, Hendrik

Pigs will fly the day I have to ask my old lady if I can buy something with money I earn.

And as far as diamonds go, I have never been able to figure out why normal people spend thousands of dollars of hard earned money on shiny rocks.

I don't think those were pigs flying by. It was HER purse containing YOUR balls. Take off your apron and go get them.

The only apron I have is made of leather and I use it when I'm welding. BUT, I wouldn't call my wife "the old lady" on the internet, but obviously a macho stud such as yourself does.

"Old lady" was perhaps an incorrect choice of words. She is a very sweet woman and we tease each other as we have for many years. We just don't take ourselves quite as seriously as some of the "guys" on here do.

Nonetheless, why would a man ask if it is ok to spend his own money ? I am an excellent provider( family first) and my family is the type that doesn't need many material possesions to be happy. But I don't ask anybody how to spend my money.
