I bought a 1966 Case 580ck Backhoe for $4,800.00. I recently found out it has a hole in a piston and the other cylinders only have around 100 pounds of pressure. My local dealer states I am probably looking at another $4,000 to get it back in shape. Does anybody have any idea's ??
Should I keep it and spent more money or sell it or scrap it ?????[color=blue:663e933451][/color:663e933451]

Here is another link for Case backhoe parts.
I have been slowly going thru a 580C with extendahoe.Lots of odds and ends to deal with on old machines but parts are plentiful and inexpensive.Once the bushings are tightened up,leaks fixed and running right those old Case machines get the job done!

They told me they have to take the whole front off ( enloader ) and
that's where most of the labor is..... I saw the kits for $643
They told me that the compression should have been around 200 instead of 100 pounds of pressure

at 100 pounds of compression, you can safely bet it is a gas. A diesel needs more compression than that to run.

So why dont you just replace the piston with the hole and run it. Later if you can make some money with it then you could trade up or replace engine.

Thats BULL IF ya have a 500 dollar craftman tool set and a BOOK you can fix it for a bunch less . Look around for the parts ya need and get prices from everybody . next find a good old fashioned Machine shop for the stuff ya can not diy . I have seen this happen to many folks on the bargain of the year only to find out that is a nighmare of the year . A little time a few bucks you can have it up and running , but the down side is that you will never get back what ya put into it . Only the use . I have seen this way to many times on construction equipment way more then on the ag equipment . Years back i fixed a 580 B for a guy that got raked over the coals and if he had just taken someone that knew equipment with him to loook at it first before writing the check he would have been 10000 dollars to the good . If he had knowen that i know people that sell this stuff and they are people that you can trust he could have bought the same machine for 2000 lees that would have worked.

If you are going to scrap it please let me know.I have a friend looking for such a machine. However it seems to me that you would make a mistake to junk this machine.Phone #281 857 9576.

your dealer is nuts. that is a real easy engine to rebuild only thing to watch for is they used about four types of heads and some can be pricey but other then that parts are kind of cheep for them just a fun engine to rebuild. it more then likely will be a 188

IF You Have the G207D Diesel, the kit cost $634.95
It's definitely a fixer-upper and not a scrapper. Most engine shops will charge you $500 for cleaning and assemble. Check around, get more estimates. That kit is available on Yesterday's Classic Tractor.
