Several years ago wick weeders (aka rope weeders) were becoming popular but due to genetically engineered crops they have fallen out of favor. I would like to build one but do not know where to find the components. Any suggestions??

Orchard Equipment and Supply here in MA has them for about $35. Go to www.oescoinc.com and search on equipment.

When we were cleaning out my Fathers shop over Thanksgiving we threw away 2 new wick wipers. Put together put never used. If the truck is still there I could dig them out Christmas when back.

A few years ago before I went notill with lots of glyphosate, I wanted a hand wick weeder. I found from a google search that I could buy one complete cheaper than buying the pieces.

Search for rope wick.

Its not a completely forgotton technique.

Probably pieces like all plastic electric cord waterproof gromets mounted to plastic pipe and filled with a plastic rope made of fine strands (probably as much as 1/2 or 3/4" diameter) would work. Might need a reservoir above the main plastic pipe to keep from having to fill it too often.
