First is from seat
Second in in front of my house
Third is my som plowing his drive.
Cental Illinois 5 inches with 30 mph winds. First time in my 57 years to have cab and heat. Plowed in 10 degree wind chill in a long sleeve shirt, no gloves. I have done it the other way for years and have been frozen.

In the 1950's, 60's, and early 70's, I moved a lot of snow with a 1939 John Deere B with a Silbaugh mechanical front end loader and snow bucket. (Northwest Iowa) No Heat Houser,or electric start either. Looking back on it, it seems like a very primative piece of equipment, but it was sure better than a shovel. I would add a pint of kerosene to the oil. Then, if it was really cold, I would take a kettle of hot water from the house and pour over the intake manifold. The old girl never failed to start.

Use some wire ties and fasten some plexiglass to the four sides. Sides don't have to be real thick. Front should be though. Put big ties on the top or side of the front to make a door. Small rubber tarp strap fastened with a wire tie will keep the "door" closed. I been after my bro-in-law to try this on his skid steer. He finally did this year and said he could kick himself for not doing it sooner.

730virgil--I take it from your handle that you have a 730 Deere? I have ny father's 1959 730 Diesel and use it all the time. Great tractor. Front weights, flat top fenders, factory 3 pt., electric start, rear weights, and single remote. I would to have dual remotes for the pull type box scraper. Don't use it much anymore in the winter, but keep it busy the rest of the time.

We only had an additional 3 inches or so, but it gave me an excuse to get the Ferguson out. That's an old Dearborn blade that I'm using. I imagine it's one of the first ones ever made. It has the Dearborn tag on it, I'll have to take a picture of it sometime. It's a nice and heavy old blade. The tractor & blade belonged to my dad. Tom

I have a Dearborn blade. We got it from a golf course that bought it new. It's kind of a pain to reverse compared to new blades but does the job. Dave

I was lucky and since it has been so windy here in northern Oh I didn't have to plow the drive. But I did start the 302 and ran it up the drive about 50 feet then decided it was cold, with the wind beating on my face, so I put it away. No cab. My grandpa has a heat houser that he wants me to put on it but I hate them so I'll just freeze.

Free heat houser and you don't want it. You been out in the cold to long. Next to a solid cab, the're the best thing out there. My guess is you've never used one. I added peice of plastic from a storm door to the back and never worry about the wind. Trust me, Grandpa knows best about this subject.

we had 7" with those winds, north of Springfield,IL. Our road district has a simlar setup,it is a 12foot one way blade mounted on the bucket of a 928F Loader, with chains, it will move a low of stuff and if it gets too bad, you can pile it 15-20foot with that setup they have.
