Don,

I live in the general area you do (Freedom, WI), wondering where you get your pumpkin seeds? Last year I mail ordered thru Jung, but back in the day we used to buy them from a place in Seymour, but it's out of business now. Wondering if you buy them local or thru mail order? Anyone else in NE WI have a seed vendor they could lead me to?

Thanks.

I use Harris Seeds for most of my pumpkins. They have a lot of varieties developed by Harris Moran Company that are powdery mildew resistant. Rupp Seeds also has a good variety of pumpkins. A new company (3 years old) is Outstanding Seeds. The owner is a friend and neighbor and he is trying to specialize in breeding PM resistant pumpkins and squash. He does some of his crosses on my farm. Right now my favorite varieties from Harris are:
Mystic Plus - pie pumpkin 4 - 6 lbs
Magic Lantern - nice size 15 - 20 # - industry standard
Alladin - large - 20 - 40 #

Thanks for the responses, would've like to help the local business if available but i guess i'll just have to go the mail order route.

Thanks again.

Here's a picture of a pumpkin harvest in Ohio. I don't know where he gets his seed. He is setup to irrigate the fields when its needed like in 2007. Hal
PS: I tried posting this last night, but it wouldn't work.

I grow about 3 acres each year and have found Harris to be the best bet.

You can try the Harris Seed Co in NY at 1-800-544-7938. I ordered my tomato seeds from them and they were very helpful. Hal
PS: You can buy large or small quanties too.

Jung's is one of the vendors we use. We also found Johnny's seeds about 2 years back, and they've got some really cool stuff. Last year we ordered most of our seeds from them, and had great results.

The local guys just don't have a good selection, and surely don't have the funky hybrids that sell well. They've only got the plain jane orange ones, and a few of the white ones.

Here's a picture of a watermelon given to me last summer by my neighbor. His family grow them on the Eastern shore of MD. Sure was sweet. Hal

I used to use harris seed. Then a friend of mine told me to try Abbott and cobb seed. The abbott seed seemed to produce a much nicer product in the end. The yeild was also alot higher with than abbott and cobb seed. It is a bit more money but I think it is worth it. The website is www.abbottcobb.com, Hope I was some help

We don't grow pumpkins any more but had great results with Harris seeds. The seeds seemed to be bigger and "truer" to what I expected. We primarily planted the Howden. I tried a lot of places but they were the best overall.

Just my two cents

We have 3 greenhouses too, we get most of our seeds from Harris Seed Co. They UPS them to us. Go to www.harrisseeds.com, try the "Atlantic Giants" if you are looking for a large gourd pumpkin. We will only be planting one this year. we are in a serious one state recession. People losing homes left and right, no ones going to put flowers in front of them.
