Working on our newly aquired Peterbilt semi tractor today. We are having it relettered tommorrow and need some tips to get that sticker glue off. I tried laquer thinner seems to work okay with some elbow grease. Just wondering if there is anything better out there that won't take the paint off either.

I've never tried Goo Gone, but I have tried Goof Off. It works well, but use it sparingly and carefully. I did remove automotive paint off a 67 F250 inner door panel inadvertantly by applying too much elbow grease with that stuff.

A while back I bought a 71 chevy pickup from a 91 yr old guy. He had repainted the white side panels including the tailgate and had masked off the letters with msking tape. He had a cattle rack put on right after(tailgate has to be lowered) and never took the tape off the tail gate letters. Tape had been on for possibly 6 YEARS! Stuck like concrete! I got a bottle of Goo Gone just to give it a shot. It worked, BUT I had to spray it on and let it soak for several days before taking off the tape. It took several trys to get it all but after 2 weeks I had it. I never thought that stuff would come off without a grinder! I have a 68 Olds 442 in the barn that has 18 yr old masking tape on it. I will give it a try on there when it warms up. Goo Gone will get it off especially if you let it soak a few hours or even days.

I'll throw in with the Goo Gone contingent here. Only caveat is that a lot of those adhesives are actually double sided tape, with a very thin carrier film. Squirt the Goo Gone on a rag or paper towel, let it set on the surface for a few minutes, and if the adhesive doesn't just wipe off, you may need to use your thumb to "roll" the film off. Goo Gone is citrus based and won't poison you if it penetrates the skin. Wonderful stuff.

Was told to remove the vehicle decals with wd 40. Never needed to can't say it works. I have used it to degrease tractors and no paint damage.

Rag soaked in vinegar, let it sit a couple of minutes. Sticker will peel right off.

I've used a product called Goof Off for years. Terrific on sticker residue. It claims to be safe on dry oil based paints but will remove dry latex paint.

(also removes lipstick...just in case)

"Glue be gone" has worked for me pretty well. Get it at like Menards.

What has worked best though for the initial hardened rough stuff, something learned in a boat factory decades ago. Heating the stickers, lisences, etc even really old ones softens the glue, and when peel the now softened stickers off, much of the glue goes too. The cleanup ladies used heat lamps for a short period of time, and that's where I learned it, from the professionals.

GOO GONE works pretty good for the adhesive used on price stickers. Doesn't seem to hurt paint but I wouldn't bet on that, best to test it on the proverbial hidden spot.

3M makes some stuff (aerosol) called Adhesive Remover Citrus Base. Contains no solvents, it does however use propane for propellant so is HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. Works very well in my opinion. Check parts stores I guess, I use it at my job, and they buy from a wholesaler.

I have had real good luck with WD-40, sprayed on a clean, soft rag. Give it a good coat, let it set a few seconds and then start rubbing gently. You will get the hang of it. You then have an oil coating so will need a good degreaser of your choice.

There's "stuff in a can" to do almost anything. Check with your local auto dealer (doesn't matter which flavor) and they have something that will do it.
