We are planning a trip to drive several chamberlain champion tractors across the USA. Our plan is to obtain covered wagons as used by the early settlers, but converted to pneumatic tyres, and hopefully follow some of the original wagon routes in our travel across from the East to the West coast. The time frame would be in the summer /autumn of 2009 for 3 months. We are seeking some help however in matters such as the requirements to have the tractors licensed to travel on the various road systems. Advise on the most practical route to take , where and when we could participate in local tractor shows and a host of otherfactors that need to be considered. Ifanyone can offer some assistance it would be very much appreciated. During August /September 2007 we drove a single chamberlain tractor around Australia in 38 days, a distance of 15,000 klms. If of interest, you can follow the journey on the websiteas shown below. Loking forward to hearing from any interested parties . Regards Ron.

There is a tractor called FRIDAY that will run 60mph, too. Stories around here that some were bought and never made it home. The drivers were killed when machines overturned due to high speed.

Thank you for the responses received today. The tractors that we intend to drive in the USA will be the standard model which has a top speed of about 50 klm/hr. These tractors have been restored and most will be available to be purchased at the completion of the trip.

There was an article in a recent Hart Parr Oliver Collector Magazine about such a trip that was taken just recently. Go to hartparroliver.org and search the magazine archives. Quite a story. Despite having pre approved permission, they were still stopped in certain places and had to trailer them. The mountains of California I think is where they were stopped for safetys sake. They said that after they saw what they would have faced,it would have been too dangerous.

At first I thought this could be a dangerous trip at times, especially in the East with all the heavy traffic on some roads and tractors chugging along. But I see that Chamberlin tractor can run 60 mph(100 km/h). At that speed I"d go just to watch them whiz by! Can you imagine the looks of a motorist going 55 and a tractor passes him?

It will take a good wagon to stay behind a tractor going 60.
