on the coldest darn day of the week, what the heck! Gotta pick my cows out today, as the gents herd is going to the sales barn on thursday. Havent decided on 4 or 6 yet. Gonna be fun getting my pick of the 20. Wife just winked and said she wants a black one...should I be worried about that request(?), I think she was talking about a cow! Then I am gonna run over to a fella's place that has a Oliver 1750 that we just found out he decided to sell because he doesnt need it. Duals, cab, was completed overhauled 6 years ago, used on less than 100 acres for 3 years of crops and has been in the shed since then because the guy rented out the tillable. Very straight tractor, very honest and respectable seller, his daughter is good friends with my wife. He thought he would "like" to get $3500 for it. It isnt no 1086, but big enough for for most everything I need it for in the next 3 years.

Looks like I am taking 3 reds, 2 blacks, and a simmental cross that her and her last calf were just too awesome to worry about their color. Cant really explain the color, I'll post a pic when we bring em home on sat. They are all 1st and 2nd calf cows and 1 black is a heifer on her 1st. Owner of the tractor wasnt home. Tractor batts were stone dead, has 34" tires. I guess the motor that is in it is not the original 1750 motor, father in law couldnt remember which motor is was but it it putting out a bit more than a 1750 waukesha does. I need to find out what the motor really is. It has the tri-power. If I can get him down a bit I will take it, bring in the shop and give her a "Dave from MN Special" makeover.

Sounds like you did real good on the cows. I'm glad you decided to go with 6. I think you'll be glad you did. The tractor? Well, I don't know anything about Olivers, but the price sure sounded good enough, I guess like you say, find out what motor it has and hear it run. Then go from there. I'll look foward to your cattle pictures.

My neighbor has had a 1750 Hydraul-shift for 35 years. Almost daily use on a dairy farm. Only had one overhaul in all that time. Good solid old tractor and still earning it's keep.

You'll fall in love with that 1750. Not to knock the 1086,but the hydra power 2 speed on the Oliver has the torque amplifier on the IH beat hands down going away. Walk in with those cows and judge them on temprament. If you're keeping them for breeding, you'll be handling them a lot. You'll want something that's not gonna spook real easy.

I agree on the cows. Years ago, we bought several cows from an old friend. We had the pick of the lot, and bought 5 that we thought fitted our herd the best. The friend did not work his cattle much but had a herdsman. When the herdsman delivered them, he said "Watch out for those two, they can be mean." Boy was he right. One put our son up against a bunk (no injury). We sent those two to market that fall. Tempermant is important.

You will like that 1750. I have both a 1850 & a 886. Like em both. I'll be going to look at a few calves next week. Good lick with yours.

Sounds like a good price on the tractor. I never had one but new several people that have. Nothing but good remarks about them 1750s. Built like a battle ship.
