This time of the year is our wet season. While we often get 5" to 6" of rain a month we do not have the heat this time of year to evaporate it so the ground stays wet.
Our average temp this time of year is 45 low 65 high but it can get real chilly when a front goes threw. We will see what you think of our 30 deg with the 90% humidity. You may just want to go back home.
You are most likely going to the 9th ward. One of the hardest hit areas. Never heard of the 11th ward. Have you ever seen a shot gun house before. Most of the houses in the 9th ward are just that. You can stand in the front door and see out the back door into the yard. You need to walk through each room to get to the back of the house because there is no hall way.
I hope you know you are coming about 4 days to late. Mardi Gras day is Tuesday Feb 5th.

I was born and raised in the suburbs of New Orleans and now live about 50 miles to the north west in Ponchatoula La. Wave as you go by if you are driving in and thanks for coming down to help us out. I know first hand how it feels because my Mom and Dad lost their house to the flood.

New Orleans has many wards. How we separate voteing regions for city council. I think it is 17 of them. The only one that uses the name by ward is the 9th ward though. I looked at a map and yes 11th ward is what we call the uptown area.

Enjoy our city while you are here; and thanks again for helping people in need.

It's nice that you're volunteering your time, but if they are'nt building those houses on stilts down there, it's a waste of time IMHO.

I am from Eastern Washington State, where right now it's in the teens with 2-43 feet of snow. I've been in Baton Rouge since October (still working on Katrina recovery.) The weather right now in Baton Rouge is 35 to 75, nice, but when it rains, it's with a capital R. Enjoy the area and the people, and the feeling of accomplishment. Good for you!

I'm a long time former resident of N.O. Now 100 miles north.

Expect lows in the low 40s and highs in the 60s. Could be colder, of course ,but that is about average.

Thanks for helping in the recovery effort.

I live east of Tyler. You will need to post some pictures of Allen Benz, it will be the last chance for the world to see him while he is still single. It gets pretty cool at night but it can get real warm during the day.

Balatonm, are you going with the Tyler group? I went down to La last year, what a great experience. Would love to go back, but hard to ask anyone to take care of livestock this time of year. Enjoy the sunshine and the great cajun cooking!!!
