Ok,I have a 1956 Case 310 utility tractor. My tractor runs good all except when I go to let the clutch out and make the lift pull something, the engine wants to die, like it dosent have power. Could this be something wrong with the governor? In the past the tractor has run great. I cant pull a nothing or even let out the clutch at full throttle without it wanting to die and sputter? Suggestions Please

Just to clarify in my mind - does the tractor move at all? If not could it be locked in two gears at once or have ice in the rear end? This would cause it to stall as soon as you let the clutch out. tractorsam

It is not that cold here. I just wonder if it is my governor not working properly, because it runs fine, it just cant conter-act or adjust real fast when a load is put on it. Its like the governor wont let the motor kick in to help with the added stress that was just put on the engine.

Check to make sure the the spark and timing are correct. Then check fuel delivery, float level and carb adjustments.

Try pulling choke out a bit and see if that helps. You may have a little something in the fuel system but it might run some what with the choke engaged.

Along with fuel restriction- whatever source-do not ignore the air cleaner.

It is most likely a lean high speed system in the carb. adjusting the mixture to richer (use a manual to find the screws) will do it. If it will not, there is probably a flake of dirt in the jet, or the fuel supply is restricted. Do a flow test to the carb (remove the line and aim it into a can, then turn on the fuel) if it flows like it is running through a 1/4" hole, and it does so for more than a minute) the supply is fine and the carb may need to be cleaned.
Condensers in the ignition can have that symptom, but less often. JimN

How cold is it there? Just about all our old stuff lugs when we start out in this zero-ish weather!

check to see if something has clogged a jet in the carburetor or if something has obstructed the fuel line or bottom of the fuel tank and isnt letting adequate fuel flow.

Don't touch anything until the fuel system is overhauled. it will idle but no power.has to be a blockage or adjustment.
