1936 chevy my dad had a fellow hit it one night rolled it over in our yard while it was [parked in front of the house] the neighbor bought it, put a dual wheel truck axel under it,2 transmissions cut all but hood off cristened it [hoodelbug] I was about 10 when I was pulling harrow ,disk,rake,sometimes shuttle wagons to barn 3 yrs later I got a real job with my uncle's 8N [for 1.00 a day + dinner & supper B4 evening milking

Uncle Leonard's 2/9n Ford and couldn't have been over 5/6. He opened the pasture field gate, got the tractor out and parked it in the gateway and showed me how to start it and use the clutch to put it in gear and the throttle. I remember shifting the various gears...they were stamped on the case covering the transmission...and I knew when I put it in "R" which way it would go. By 9 or 10 I was a pretty good hand on an H-Farmall but decided that the squealing brakes on it needed oiling. I think that was my first correction. I didn't get to drive all the time...cause I was the gate opener and once while closing the gate I sure was glad. The muffler on that old "H" was tickling a hornets nest and Jack, the driver looked like a monster when he finally got away from them. He was stung many times in the face. He kept hollering for me to run but I just sat on the front of the hay wagon laughing...finally I decided I better and just as soon as I did, i got popped too. ohfred

I think it was a Case model D[ had the battery mounted up high]..Hand clutch , flat platform..I think I was 6 at the time..One of my dad's buddies farm on Munson Rd.Interlaken N.Y.

Massey 35 , picking up hay at age 5 or so , following Year same job with SC Case with hand clutch . Was discing with a DC all day long at age 12.. around 1972 everyone had a tractor to run in Our family ,My Dad had 3 sons and 5 daughters , Some of mysisters had a little bit of Tom Boy in them , Gas was 30cents or less and Diesel was 22. Man those were Good Days , and I KNEW IT THEN !

This question was asked several days ago but i don't mind offering my experience again. I was 4-5 years old when Dad turned me loose with our 1939 AC B pulling a small Disc in the Garden behind the House at Union Ill. Lets see how many times this response gets posted,interesting?.JC

Well I drove a mule first, I was just big enough to hold the plow up :)
Then a simplicity 2 wheeled gas mule, then a Super A.

Some sort of red tractor that my uncle had. That's all I remember. I think I was in my 20's. I only got to drive for a few minutes, but liked it. Many years later, about 1992, we drove over 1800 miles from Dallas to Gosport, Indiana and back to Dallas in my beloved hubby's 1965 1/2 ton Chevy with a 16 ft flatbed trailer and got my Dad's 1948 JD A. Man what a trip! It took us 22 hours to make the drive back. God definitely had his hand on us. That tractor is now my darlin' and got us started on JD tractors. We now have 3 B's, 3 A's and a 1955 JD 70 Diesel. We're pretty much out of room, so don't know if we'll add any more. I thoroughly enjoy driving the tractors and using them as we work on our farm. A good day is a day spent outside on a tractor working the farm not doing laundry or dishes.

Got stopped once by a sheriffs deputy. Grandpa had got pretty far ahead and the deputy did not realize I was with him. He pulled me over and asked how old I was. When I said 7, his eyes grew wide. I told him I was following my Grandpa. Once he found out who Grandpa was, an old friend of the sheriff, I was allowed to drive on.

A neighbor's 871 Ford when I was about 7. I had "driven" my dad's IH "H" before that, but it was mostly just "steering" it. The Ford was the first one I drove by myself with nobody else onboard with me and no help.

Either Farmall H or Allis B when was about 8 or 9.

That is unless that peddle job that my brother and some of his friends strapped me to and pushed me down the big steep hill on when was about 4 or 5 counts, and didn't drive it so much as flipped and rolled all the way down through bushes and trees and stuff. Now that I think about it, might've been the first of many occasions I got stitched back together too.
