Listened to the farm report on radio this morning and they said the U.S. DOT had decided ALL farmers were going to be requried to have interstate authority to haul their grain to town because it was considered interstate commerce. Their reasoning was that the grain would more than likely be shipped to another state at some time.

I don't have a link for any info but it should be easy to find. Our Ks. Senator was really upset about it and was trying hard to get it stopped.

I'm a DOT Inspector. You guys do know that ANYTHING DOT does is at the behest of the trucking industry right? I'm serious, it was INDUSTRY that came up with changes in HOS rules, INDUSTRY that changed load securement and then undid the changes, INDUSTRY that decided on dug testing rules. You guys need to contact your industry reps if you want changes. DOT is a whipped dog when industry (read BIG MONEY) speaks!

Is it illegal to take water from a pond and give it directly to cows or horses without traping or containing it.I wonder who would own the water after it flooded your basement. Make the city pay for damages that the water caused after a heavy rain. After all, it is their water:>

When the DOT police is standing on the running board of you semi you have to make him believe that the grain is yours and be sure to have your health card ready to show.

A caller to Rush's show mentioned this last week but it was, then, a proposal and there is still time to raise a stink with your representative or senator - if you have one who cares. Wish I had specifics about whether or not this is rooted in law or some regulator's idea of a good time because that matters when it comes to killing it. I am trying to find specifics but not much luck so maybe it's rumor...

Don't worry after the Gov. starts running you health care they will start to take over other industries as well such as farming and your breakfast will cost about 30 bucks- 10 for a gal of milk- 10 for a box of and-10 for a loaf of bread and 5 more of you want butter or sugar! Socialicism here we come!!!

I have to jump in here with my comment.

I got in a discussion with a guy that lives in Tucson about water rates. It turns out that the rate he pays is about half of what I pay and I don't live anywhere close to a desert. I am talking about water for domestic use only.

You folks in Az are headed for a train wreck when it comes to water.

Y'know Rob, I think it's more about regulation than taxation. There was a pretty lenghty stretch of threads a while back over on the hauling board about states pushing for hobbyists hauling their tractors to a show, for example, having to have DOT#s. Seemingly harmless, except getting and keeping your DOT # and staying legal means (apart from common sense safety items like spare bulbs and fuses, emergency triangles, and fire extinguishers, which must be hard-mounted, not just in behind the seat . . .) having a random drug-testing program (you have to pay a contractor to do it for you), an acceptable safety program (another thing to pay for) . . . And that's just for crossing the 10k weight, nothing to do with 26k and CDL stuff.

I don't want to turn this issue political, but I really have to wonder who's driving all this.

Scotty, money is driving this, pure and simple, under the guise of safety, which is hard to be against. When winning a 50 cent ribbon at a tractor show, or a buddy giving you $10 for gas for hauling his tractor is considered commerce, it ain't about safety any more. Otherwise a once a year state truck inspection would suffice.

The wonderful politicion from my state wants to give fedral control to _all_ water, not just navagable waters, so they can control wetlands & such. As well as any runoff - tile lines, lawn clippings, etc. Any little posthole pond, even if you dug it. 172 in congress are co-sponsers.....

EPA has the dust rules on the books already, slowly going threough commitees.

Livestock is to fall under NAIS, COOL, and a few other rules. Not that you can have any, see point #1.

Engine emissions, lawn mowers, chain saws, tractors, etc.

Farming is going to leave this country. It will be banned.

Paul, It will not have to be banned. People will just quit. Has anyone checked the price of fertilizer lately. I farm only for a 2nd income but I am done. When the price if fertilizer more than doubles in one year, something is bad wrong. There is no way I am going to put $7,500 worth if fertilizer on my hay just to net a few dollars after the high cost of fuel. Not to mention Labor. No one will throw square hay bales anymore, not even our friends from below the south border. I will get me a big wide bush hog to keep the land from growing up and just save myself a lot of aggrevation and trouble. Don't get me wrong. I really like to fool with hay but I am not going to work for nothing. I QUIT.

paul - two questions. #1, who is the politician you refer to. #2, 172 in Congress being co-sponsors, did you maybe mean "co-conspirators"? I remember the term "navigable waters", and it seems like anything that would float a toy boat anytime of the year, even spring runoff.

Hi Paul,

It's already that way in AZ. AZ owns all surface water, doesn't matter if it's run off or a stream or snow pack.

It's illegal to "trap" or "contain" any water in AZ without a State permit.

The indians are trying to get all water rights to water wells. I now have to file a $20 fee for EACH type of use, domestic, stock pond, irrigation or other use. After drilling my domestic well I got a summonds for court from the Az indian tribes that I had to give to the AZ DEQ (AZ water controler). The State is going to defend the well owners on this one.

I'm surprised they don't tax our rain water!!!
