tall kid was supposed to be at work at 7 am. he got up and was getting ready for work mrs 730 told him to check out road as we had rain most of night. all day yesterday tv and radio were saying not to be on road today as they would be ice covered and bunch of snow on top of ice. i told mrs 730 there isn't any way he get to work as you won't be able to get up either hill to north or south they have been bad all winter. about 6:45 phone rang tall kid went in ditch. i said what ta heck are you doing trying to go to work anyway. road is soild ice. he said i thought it was just our driveway. short time later phone rang again it was neighbor about mile north wondering if i could get their son out of ditch. itold her to call glenn as i wouldn't be able to do anything with my tractors. about 9 leroy's wife called wondering if snow had been by as leroy left at midnight to deliver newspapers. and hadn't got back. he had made it to their daughter. about noon i took 333 down the road to see if we could get tall kid's truck out of ditch. i couldn't. about 4 glenn came by with tractor and took tall kid with him to get tk's truck. he ended backing his truck all the way home as he could't get turned around. leroy went by about the same time he finally got home. glenn also got other niegbor kid out. tall kid helped get hay out for cows and we called it a day. at one time today there were 2 semis and 2 sheriff cars in ditch or hung on road north of us so road was closed for awhile we live on top of hill and have to go up a hill no matter which way we go.

Tried going to church yesterday morning. Snow drifts had melted, so I got stuck instead of just driving over them. Both fronts were in snow, one rear was in snow, and the other on ice. I said forget it, went back inside and stayed there all day. Roads were probably deadly anyway.

Yep, she left saturday morning in the sunshine and had no problem gettin' home. A Wisconsin cop wrote her one heckuva speeding ticket that I yelled at her for, though.

It'll be sooooo good to see spring come. We haven't had nearly as much snow/ice as other people in Iowa and the midwest and we're flatlanders so hills aren't a problem. But we're still fed up with what we do have.

Been trying to get come corn hauled to bolster the bank account a bit, but favorite trucker has hogs so the extra cold, somewhat snowy weather has been keeping him busy moving snow for the feed truck/hog trucks, tending to frozen fans, etc., so he hasn't had time to haul grain.

Usually when I need to haul, I hop in one of his trucks and get er done but that can't happen right now, so I guess we sit and wait.

I congratulate 'tall kid' for going against the odds to try to get to work. Right before I read your post Marilyn was venting to me about the employees at work who find every cottin pickin excuse they can to NOT come to work.

I hope the weather improves for you real soon.
Oh yes, favorite trucker is down to a one man show temporarily cause his dad went to Daytona, and to rub a little salt in the wound, dad calls home and tells him the temp was 80 when they left the race. Jim

That sounds like the night I learned 4 wheel drives arent unstoppable. 1/4 inch of glare ice on the roads, I was 17 and just had to get to "The Back 40", it was a dance hall/bar in Santiago MN, and that is where the "babes" all were on a friday night. As my buddies and I were cruising south, listening to Def Leppard and talking smart about how great the truck handles on the ice, we came up behind a Bonneville that was driving half on the tar/ice and half on the shoulder/ gravel and doing about 20 mph. Some one said pass the ol fart, so I did. When I turned the wheel right to get back in the proper side of the road, the truck started rotating, we did (2) 360's going down the road, about 200', hit the ditch sideways( this was early march and the ditches were deep snow) and ended up about 20 feet off the road with the frame of the truck resting on the snow, wasnt going any where. The ol Bonneville pulled up and stopped, and honked the horn. It was an older gent, bout 70 and his wife. Told us to get in and they'll bring us to the the establishment. We were very grateful and felt like what we were-"Donkeys". His Mrs said the old fello asked her while we were beside them if they should stop "WHEN" we hit the ditch, not if, when, glad they did. So us kids in a big 4x4 didnt make it, but an older couple in a 2 wheel drive Bonneville did. Learned my lesson that night for life, lost a bumper and the exhaust the next morning yanking the old dodge out of that ditch the day. Also ended up that the "babes" all stayed home that night anyway.

Look on the bright side no one was hurt. Give tall kid a pat on the back for trying to get to work when he had a good reason not too. Stan
