12V Ryobi Drill

I've got a 12V Ryobi cordless drill. It's nothing fancy for sure, but it's worked pretty well for me.

Anyway, the only thing I don't like about it is the batteries go dead if they're just left to sit. It doesn't take long either, like 24 hours. At first I thought it was the drill so I started to take them out when I wasn't using it but it didn't help at all. I can take a battery right off the charger, set it on the bench and by the next morning it's dead.

I have two batteries, so one is always in the charger. When ever I use the drill I just switch them out, the one in the drill goes in the charger and the one in the charger is ready to go in the drill.

Has anyone else had this problem? If I get the packs "rebuilt" will that solve the issue, is there a place that uses better quality batteries?

It's pretty annoying. My dad has a 12V Makita and that thing can sit for weeks and still hold a charger (I know, the makita is a better tool, but we're just talking batteries here).

Thanks,

K

Thanks Guys.

I'll look into a rebuild. I also see Interstate offers new batteries as well.

Most of my tools are Ryobi except the battery ones. I do have 3 9.6 volt Ryobi drill mmotors that have the same problem. I even have batteries that don,t work anymore. My Dewalt is older than the Ryobis and they still work fine. I called ryobi for replacement batteries and it wou cost me also 40$ for a new 9.6 battery. Only paid 30.00 for motor and 2 batteries four years ago. I guess I will try the rebuilders. Henry

I've had real good luck with battery pack rebuilds at the local Interstate Battery store.

Sounds like your batteries are in need of replacement/rebuild. I would check prices. May be cheaper to shop for a new drill on sale.
