Sorry to keep beating a very sick horse, but I've seen comments saying Kruse actually bought the Phillips estate and are the outright owners now.

Is that really true? Or is it just a rumor??

I guess I can kind of see all the extra fees if they are used to selling million dollar Ferrari's instead of farm equipment, but if they bought the whole estate outright, no telling how tightly they'll be protecting all the tractors or saving the exotic ones to put on Ebay...

If it is true, "no reserve auction" will likely mean nothing and that makes all the extra fees STINK all the worse...

Plus, I can't get over the restriction that a guy only has 24 hours to move his purchases... Do they want people to attend the sale?? Or be driving back and forth???

I attended several days, didn't know about all the legal wranglings going on, but it was very impressive to see all that he had laying around there, all the fees and BS were blown out of proportion on sites like this, ya they had a 10% buyers premium, but there was no time limit or charge on getting stuff hauled out, Kruse had rented 6 loaders to help everyone load and were doing it for free for the next montgh, after that they will still do it for free, you just have to call some local gfuy to come help if you need it. All in all a very impressive sale with bidders from all over the USA, Europe, Canada, even Australia

Went and bought. Purchased 2 720 Diesel"s. Loader almost dropped one, damaged the hood. Drove from Topeka KS area to the sale. All in all the drive was worth it. Had too much to choose from though a lot needed a lot of work. If you needed parts for any project they were there. I have already started both and the nicer of the two has already leveled the drive and mowed grass. It will need little work to be perfect.

Yeah I heard that too about him selling out to E-Bay...apparently he inflated the books to make his business look more profitable, E-Bay found out, so he had to buy it back in order to avoid legal troubles.

What are you referring to Oh? If you are talking about who currently owns the estate, it should matter. Always good to know who exactly you are buying from. If you are referring to Aumanns suit, put yourself in their shoes. If you were an auctioneer, a sale of this magnitude would make you a hefty sum, one you would not soon wish to give up. I care, because Aumanns seem like fair, honest guys, and they deserve what was rightfully theirs.

No telling what the truth is - it just seems weird to me that Kruse would mess around with something as dumb as buying an estate out from under another auctioneer...

He supposedly made $145 million or so selling out to Ebay before later buying it back....

I have heard the rumor that Kruse bought the estate. However, I have also heard that Dennis Polk of Indiana bought it, and also that the estate is still in the hands of Mrs. Phillips. I guess until we find out some more information or get our hands on some solid facts, we can't really be sure of who is currently in possession.

I was planning on driving 1200+ miles to attend this auction when Aumanns had it. But after the switch to Kruse I decided not too, partly because of their unfavorable reputation, and partly because of all the fees and restrictions. I know a lot of other people on this site feel the same way I do, and are not attending as a result. I am rooting for Aumanns when it comes to their breach of contract suit, I hope they get everything they deserve.

Sound a lot like the used car dealer"s auctions. When I had my dealer"s license, I took an Olds Cutlass to a dealer"s auction and put a $3400 protection price on it.

The bidding stalled at $3200. The ringman came over and asked me if I"d let it go for that. I replied, "No, I need to have $3400."

The ringman said, "OK, we only have one guy bidding, we"ll work on him some more." They started the bidding again and pretty soon got it to $3400.

Orginally, Aumann had the contract to provide the
auction on the 4-7 June of 2008. Kruse must have come up to the widow and offered to buy everything
outright, so that they can do the auction. Aumann
is suing right now for breach of contract. Will be
interesting to see how this pans out. I wanted to
go to this auction, but Kruse's cost is way too much for me to handle, even though I only live 150
miles away.

Aumann's has been very professional about the whole thing. Maybe Kruse could post what's going on and why they are charging the extra fees for everything? 7 to 14 days would make more sense for removal, especially when so many don't run. Dave

From what I have been told by a friend that has been to his sales. Kruse will pull bids out of the air. My friend said he reported Dean Kruse to the auctioneers assn but that nothing ever came of it because Dean was a member of the board. I tryed to verify this online but I do not find any reference that Kruse is a member of any auctineers assn. Draw your own conclusions.

Dean kruse did loose his auctioners license several years ago in indiana,but somehow got it back.I know a couple people who sold cars at his auctions that had trouble collecting there money.One friend of mine contacted an attorney and it still took 3 months to get paid.

To me, the extra fees and 24hr requirement makes some sense. They are going to be overwhelmed with potential buyers. The fees are in part to discourage people that aren't serious and part to recover the costs of supporting the huge crowd. Incidental costs, like bathrooms and garbage disposal, are going to be a hefty chunch of change for a week long auction of this size.

If they did buy the entire estate, they will want it cleaned up after the sale. I have seen a lot of auctions where buyers will leave parts of the lot they bought simply because they are too lazy or ill-equiped to remove it all. The mess is then left for the auction service to remove. With 20,000 items and many out of state bidders, there is the potential for a huge residual cleanup.

I'm not saying that I agree with all the charges, but that may be a resonable explanation for some of them.

I did some figuring.I live 750 miles away and if I went for the entire sale and bought absolutely nothing,it would still cost me nearly $1000 for gas-motel room,eats,and sale admission.No Thanks.

Kruse needs to stick to cars.

The posts I have read on several forums also indicate that Kruse bought the whole thing. I've got some interest in several tractors and would like to participate in the auction, but will avoid the whole mess due to the oppressive requirements/circumstances. However I'm sure they will get plenty of other bidders.
