I just bought my first skidloader...a Gehl 2500 and am searching everywhere for advice. It runs decent and I want to keep it that way with proper maintenance. Any suggestions?

It is an older machine Probably early 80"s? with the ONAN engine.
thanks for any replies!

Guy I worked for last summer had a Gehl, cant remember the model, had a 4' bucket on it. Anyways, it had a Yanmar Diesel in it. Just curious if thats a different manufacturer or just the name, and how they compare

A friend used a Gehl last summer in exchange for labour fixing it up for the owner and on that particular machine, the wheel axles have to be greased but to do this it was absolutley necessary to remove the wheels to access the grease zerks. He found out about this because he had to change out 3 of the four axle bearing pairs...failed because of lack of lubricant.

I've a few of these over the years. In fact, had a guy here looking at one I'm selling in the last hour. Maintain them just like you would anything else. That Onan engine is expensive to repair so be extra diligent about oil changes and that sort of thing. If you didnt get a manual with it, find one right away. I would suggest looking on e-bay. My first skid loader was a Gehl 2600 which is almost the same machine. While it a is a small machine, you wont believe how often you will find yourself useing it to save your back. Very handy little machine.

I just bought one right here from Yesterdays Tractors, $37.95 with shipping. Upper left hand corner of this page - Marketplace, then Tractor Manuals, then Miscellaneous. Its on about the 8TH. page half way down.

I agree with finding a manual, but unfortunately I have been unable to locate one so far. This is my 1st machine other than lawn tractors. What do you recommend for chain lubricant and where does one lubricate the chain on these?
For oil I just changed it with SHELL fire/ice 10w30.
