The factory 4020 front end is a bit weak for heavy loader work.

That loader would good on any color tractor esp, a red one! I know where there is a Oliver 1610 loader mounted on a 4020 so any combination of colors will work. Armand

The 158 is the long reach version of the 148. Covered in the same operator's manual.

Be sure to get the side rail reinforcement pieces that hide inside the side rails, or it will break the standard side rails.

In addition to the longer reach they also have bigger dia. cylinders to lift more. I never heard of the rail reinforcements before ? I'll have to double check the book. Ours hasn't broken in half yet and has had max. loads on it several times.

Yes it would take larger cylinders to even lift the same load with the extra reach.

My copies of the 148/158 manual specify the interior side rail reinforcements. They may be more necessary for the '10 and '20 than later tractors that my manuals don't cover.

Well I finally remembered to look at my manual. I saw no mention of any extra side frame reinforcements ? The attach. section just said to retorque the side frame bolts first then install the side brackets using hardened bolts and washers. My book lists tractors from the 3020 up to the 4630 I think ? I saw in the on-line parts catalog brackets for using these on utility tractors. Maybe like the 2940 ? I also thought my book listed lifting ratings, but I didn't see them in there ? Though I did not have time to read it all this morning. I am really curious about these reinforcements your book recommends.

Put it on ebay ! Those are still bringing good money. I see them advertised normally $3,000 to $3,500 and even as high as $5,000 ! Fit from a 4020 and up to the bigger newer tractors like a 4430 and maybe even bigger. I like the overhang on ours as you can reach far loading stuff on a trailer. Don't you have a 4020 with a 148 ? use that to load it.

It's a Deere loader, and they "overhang" quite a ways forward on a 4020.

Loader might. Well.....no, I broke that too after 30 some years. Big problem is the damage you do on the tractor side frames. When you see the muffler wiggle side to side and the hood is stable. Means the engine side bolts are gone. Fixed mine 20 some years ago with mounts that go back to the rear axle. Haven"t broken it since. Pix are in archives.

What are you going to do with a JD loader? Have you got a Deere hid somewhere you aren't telling us about?

It looks like Bob's is a 148 Loader..Mines is a 158. I have a Bucket on mine as well. It also has the controls with it so you don't have to sue any remotes.. just hook it into your hydrolics..

The 158 Loaders are the bigger heavier ones..

I am asking $4500.00 here Local in Hartwell GA but make me an offer..
