Wondering why you aren't making any money? Click on the link.

Also, there is an alternative to pay pal, called Google checkout. google will charge you only 2% plus $0.20 per transaction.

Yes, it takes money to make money, but if you could make the same money without spending as much, why not?

The shipping fees charged are way way up lately. You are paying the inflated ebay charges via the back door in postage. Old story about the golden goose comes to mind.

Ive gotten to the point that I tell people if they want to pay with paypal they will have to add the fees to the final value the item sells for. I had heard e-bay was raising their fees but that is a bit more than I thought. . . Nine Percent?!??! Plus more if your item sells above a certain amount!! I dont believe Ill be doing as much selling as it does not seem to be worth my time listing it there at those rates. I typically put stuff on there that I have extra and Im not really at it to make a profit, but I dont want to be losing that much money either. Thanks for opening my eyes!
Dave

It's still less than a consignment auction where anything under $100 will cost you 25% and the best you can expect to do is 7% for some high dollar items.

Our club auction is this weekend and anything under $20 is a donation to the club.

No offense intended to John, but I think we REALLY need to start getting away from that attitude and start complaining. If enough noise is made someone will see opportunity in it and an alternative will arise. We cannot just keep letting big companies raise their fees unchecked. I cannot get away with that type of thing in my business. Don't see why you should accept it from them.

It is pretty cheap plus it beats a local live auction where you'd have to haul it to the auction have people handle the item and maybe break it and not have a fraction of the people that would actually buy it see the item.It costs money to make money.

Here is a very good alternative to ebay. This is where I sell. The total number of listings topped one million March 10, nearly doubling in just a few weeks. Did I mention that there are NO fees? None

The biggest problem is that ebay is where buyers go FIRST when they are looking to buy something, hopefully CHEAP. And usually they find what they are looking for on ebay so they don't have to go any farther to check out Bidville, eCrater, Craigslist, etc. Most ebay buyers who don't sell anything on ebay have no clue what the sellers are having to pay. They just want to have a venue to buy things at bargain-basement prices. And when the seller tries to recoup some of his expenses thru increased shipping/handling fees, the buyer jumps all over him or reports him to ebay for having "unreasonable shipping charges". Then ebay gets on the seller, claiming they are charging these higher shipping charges as "fee avoidance" which is against ebay policy. We sellers are caught between a rock and a hard place - you can sell your wares someplace else where the fees are cheaper (or free) but there's no one there to buy your items! Or you can stay at ebay, pay the fees that are increased annually, and sell something. Which is better?

My sales on e-crater are slowly increasing. Kind of like "if you build it, they will come"

I'll admit that it is slow, but all things considered, and after giving ebay all of their fees, I am actually making more money, even though I am selling fewer items.

If the sellers move away from ebay, the buyers will follow.
