ok with all the posts on fuel prices, i got a debate for you, if we were to "accidently" build a still, and it "accidently" made corn whiskey, if we added say a cup of 10wt oil to a gallon of this for lubrication would a gas engine tractor run on it and would it run well or lead to a early engine failure?

I read somewhere that you need to run it back through the still until you get it to 190 proof, then some kind of desicant to get rid of all the water. Then you have 200 proof alcohol.White lightning is only 100 or 120 proof.

In the distilling process for ethanol, the alcohol/water mixture boils off and the resulting mixture has too much water to be used for fuel. About 95% alcohol is the best that distillation can do. Removal of the water requires additional processing and/or chemical treatment.

my old late great grandpappy was running 'squeeze' in the truck and on the truck before anyone thought of alternative fuel. get low on gas and pull over and take a swig from the jug and pour the rest in the old chevy. mighty mighty pleasin', pappy's corn squeezin'.

Why do it 'accidently' when you can get a permit for it.

You can't produce it cheaper than gas UNLESS

you have a free supply of fermentables

AND a free supply of fuel to run the still.

If you can get sugar by the ton CHEAP

that will make the best fermentable.

Since we are assuming, lets just say that if you can produce corn whiskey to a very good drinkable spelled (sippin) stage then it is not cost effective to use it as fuel in that 20 dollar sippin will buy you 5 gallons of 4 dollar fuel. Since corn and fixins are goin up then sippin whiskey is probably near 30 dollars a gallon though. Good luck on your accidental endevours.
