Hello All,
I need some information on a Massey Ferguson 125 Tractor I purchased a while back. I have talked to the Massey Ferguson maufacturer, and they didn't have anything on it. I have scraped together that the reason all my plates on the tractor are written in Japanese, or Chinese, is because these tractors were made and sold to one of these countries. I am trying to find out the exact year of my tractor, and any other information, or websites about it that I can research. I know it has a 2 cylinder diesel engine on it as well, as I have already worked on it a little. Any info guys would be greatlt appreciated. Thanks, Tom p.s. According to John Farnworths book "Worldwide guide to MF 100&1000 series tractors":
"The only reference relating to this tractor is in the Canadian produced "MF View" of June 1973 in which the announcement for the start of production of the tractor in Japan was announced. It was manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries at their Sagamihara Works as the model MF 125 II purely for the Japanese market under an OEM agreement with MF. The engine fitted was a Mitsubishi KE 135. This was a water cooled, four stroke two cylinder diesel with capacity of 1302 cc and rated as 25 hp."

It sounds to me like you may be referencing a Toyosha Hinomoto built tractor, possibly a Model E152. Serial no. plate might include the designation PS 16 (16 HP). If so, this would be a "grey market" tractor and not a tractor that MF imported from Toyosha Hinomoto. I believe the MF tractor most similar to the Hinomoto E152 would be model MF205 ag tractor (as differentiated from the 3cyl MF205 industrial model). Some of the parts should be interchangeable between the MF205 ag tractor and the E152 Hinomoto.

Thanks for the response, I was told that the model 135 and the model 150 Massey Ferguson tractors were American made, and that the 125 was actually built in another country,i.e. Japan,and then sold to Massey Ferguson. All of the plates on this tractor are written in Japanese, there is no designation PS 16 on any of the plates. The tractor is red with a grey frame and engine. I don't know the horse power of the tractor, although I was told by someone that the 25 on 125 was the hp designation. I don't know this to be true, as I said someone told me this. Are you sure about the YEARS built? 100 series were '65 to '75 in US and '65 to '77 or '78 for the European models. I've found a reference to a model 821, a French-built tractor of 1960 vintage with a 2-cylinder Hanomag diesel.

There was a model MF21 available in England, 18-20 hp, with various engine combo's, styled after the Massey Harris Pony. It was built in 1958.

MF also had a model 25 which became the model 130, but they had a small 4-cylinder Perkins 107 cu in diesel.

Nov 19th of this year will mark the 50th anniversary of the brand change to MASSEY FERGUSON. There are several British magazines that are featuring Ferguson/Massey Harris/Massey Ferguson history of that time. I've got a copy of "Tractor & Machinery" in front of me now with a listing of EVERY model they were producing from mid 50's thru mid 60's. No 125 mentioned.


By the way, 135's were built in the US and at the Banner Lane plant in England. 150's were built in Detroit Mich.

135's were made in the US, the UK and France. They were also sent partly completed to other countries with local components put on and then the final assembly was completed. 100 series started in 64 in the US and 65 in the UK and France. 135's at least were made until 1979 in the UK. The tractor in question does seem rather odd and rare. Dave
