Does anyone know how much pressure it takes to hold off the factory idiot light? Is this port the full pressure of the pump? I removed the sending unitand put a gauge on this port. I see 22# cold and next to none idling hot. I see another plug on the filter housing but haven"t tried it. What does it take to keep one of these from knocking apart?

First check the plate on the bottom of oil pump I have had them to blow the gasket & warp the plate. I replaced plate & gasket had no trouble after that.

I think the plug on the oil filter housing is just to drain the upside down filter with less mess.

Is that the C142 engine ?

They say 5 psi is enough to keep a plain bearing apart. You may not have that at all your bearings. The factory idiot pressure warning switch will possibly have a rating on it, or can be cross referenced, but usually they only indicate a few psi probably in the range of 4 -8 psi at a guess. If it is on you are in trouble if your pressure readings are correct. Could be bypass vave (seat or spring), pump, loose bearings, oil quality, an internal leak, wrong and/or blocked filter, blocked oil pick-up, leak on pick-up, low oil level. You definitely need to investigate before it knocks itself apart.

c-146

No knocking.

The light hasn't worked in decades. Clean filter, clean pickup. It's on 10W40. New Rod bearings, 2 new mains (not rear) old cam bearings. I was just expecting a little more but have no idea what it was before. Maybe a pump would be good insurance.
