I have an idea for a 3 point ripper attachment that I will bolt up to a rear blade. If any of you guys have made your own blades, box blades, cultivators or disks post some pictures of them. I dont want to spend $500 at tractor supply for a box blade. I could make a version of a ripper teeth attachment for $80 in steel and a few hours of my labor. I will use this thing for leveling a long gravel drive.

In the past 3 years I have made three pieces. One is a rear scoop made from an old allis chalmers loader. It fits on a 3 point hitch and has a drop lever. I wanted to haul in some huge rocks to landscape my yard. I have hauled rock on it that appear to weigh a ton. I also made a hayroll unroller that has a hydraulic cylinder and works on a 4X5 roll. I just back up to the roll, clamp it shut in the center of the roll and take off. Works good. The other piece was a winch.(3-point) I built a frame that will brace itself in the ground while pulling, equipped with and old 10,000 lb. winch, mounted on an old 730 Case with loaded 18.5X34 tires. The thing never ceases to amaze me what it will pull. It will pull a mighty big load before it will scoot the tractor. The spool has room for 300 ft of cable so it will reach way back in the mountains to pull something out. I am working on being able to post pictures. When I can, maybe I will post some photos.

Wouldn't your rear blade level it in a few passes? If it's soft enough to get ruts it should level pretty easy. Add some weight on your blade. A $500 box blade is probably junk unless it's for a garden tractor. Dave

If you have ever seen what a 30Hp tractor with a heavy duty York rake can do to lift up and regrade an aggregate/limestone drive it is awesome. Not only does it work better then a blade but it lifts the gravel out of the dirt and redeposits it down, kinda like a road grader can do to a dirt road.

If you have a small cultivator, that you use for your garden, use it instead. Then use your box scaper for leveling your driveway. I have aa 9 1/2' Konskilled cultivator, and it does a nice job of ripping up the drive way. It may take a few passes for it to dig in, but every pass you make, it goes in a littel deeper than the last pass. Then I use a box scrapper to level out the gravel. Then i hook up my lawnroller, behind my lawn tractor, and pack it down a little.

I have seen cultivators at TSC and on the Net. About $200. The cultivators I have seen have 6 large tines, (heavy spring steel) and might work for what I need to do. I would like to rip up about 3-5 inches of gravel to get out the ruts and then smooth back over with the grader blade in reverse. What do you think.?

Isn't that what a box scraper does? I would think one of those would be easy to make provided the materials. Perhaps you could make a removable box tine grader to put on your existing blade now.

Actually I have some steel at work that I bought and I am thinking of making a 5 tine attachment that will go on my blade assembly now. I can unbolt the blade from the 3point frame and I could bolt on my make shift ripper. I need to plan this out. Tomorrow I will be making a 1.25 socket to fit my oil filter cap for my car, I am too cheap to pay $15 for a Chinese socket and too cheap to pay $25 or more for a US made one. I will make mine in about 1.5 hours and it will be made out of aluminum.

Before I closed my shop, I used to make special sockets and wrenches. Sometimes they worked way better than anything I could buy..
