I"m new to the wico mag so bear with me!!...my mag had a nice distinct impulse snap and after I re-installed the govenor and fan, now I"ve got NO impulse snap at all..I removed the mag for inspection and nothing appears to be out of order...I removed the drive cup and spring and inspected that too.....I don"t know why I can"t trip it manually on the bench..... ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!!.....THANKS!!

Thanks for the input,...got some good fire now..but I do have another question, the rotor seems to be REALLY REALLY loose on the shaft.....it's as if there is a spacer or something missing...or is it the wrong rotor??...
thanks again

Turning the flywheel backwards with petcocks open is the way some oldtimers told me to unflood pop pop engine. You did use a gasket for sure? Try tapping the mag ---kinda hard even, and try again before you go through the troubles of removing the mag. Please note there are limits with any hammer-----I have fixed many that way.

Did you use grease to lube the impulse rather than a light oil?

If you still have problems, I would check bearings.

It's possible for the spring to have broken, not related to instalation of the gov. and fan, but a coincidence.

If she triped OFF the tractor but NOT when mounted, the left/right governor shaft alignment may be off (adjusts by adding or removing shim gaskets under big end cap on other side from mag) and the mag fits too tight into the governor shaft drive and shes binding up preventing tripping, which an extra gasket or two between governor and mag might cure..... If shes off and youre manually winding n tripping it you need to turn it the right direction, of course, which is CCW when facing into the rear and held in the normal upright mounted position. If the engage dogs dont extend outward into the drive cup to engage it so it can turn n wind the spring it may need cleaned n light lubed so they do. Dont forget to get it in time cuz if 180 out (mag fits eitehr way) she will pop n bang n backfire n maybe kick the flywheel back etc etc. A simple wire swap will make em run but I prefer they be right/original where the top cap tower leads to the left cylinder.

Thanks, John..... it won"t even trip when hand winding though,..... but I"ll take a look at it again....funny thing is that it seemed just fine until I mounted the govenor and fan.....to make sure the fan gear was meshing well, I turned the flywheel back about 1/4 turn and it seems like that"s when it stopped working.....I dunno, a mystery but I"ll keep on it.....if nothing else I"ve learned a ton about the magneto..
