Belarus 825 Clutch Failure

Belarus 825 was operating normally in Nov 07. I parked it for the winter. Started it up today (4/20/08) and cannot put it in gear. Gears grind. Clutch will not disengage. Everything was fine 6 months ago - no slippage. I checked out the obvious, spings, levers, etc. Is there a way to free this up without breaking the tractor in half?

Thanks for the help everyone. This is a success story. Here is what I did:
* Blocked the clutch down with a concrete block (24 hrs). Started up and the clutch still would not disengage.
* There is an interlock on the shift lever and ignition so I can't normally start in gear. Fortunately, where the tractor was parked, it was aimed at wide open space. So I tried shoving into gear just as I tried to start the engine. I was able to get the tractor moving at a safe speed. Depressing the clutch pedal still would not stop the vehicle (obviously, I was ready to choke the engine if necessary to stop).

After a few feet (~ 15), I slammed on the brakes. The tractor worked a little. I pressed the clutch and it stopped. The 825 is working normally now. So now its on to the next step.

I have worked on more than one. Haven't hear of any sticking. Do like Bob said and be careful. Neil

It's a COMMON thing for clutch discs to rust to the flywheel or the pressure plate during periods of non-use.

I've never worked on a Belarus, but I ASSUME they would be similar to US tractors in this respect.

Is it a totally mechanically-released clutch? If so, try blocking the clutch pedal down for a few days to give it a chance to pop loose.

The other cure folks us is to start the tractor in gear, and drive it around, jerking it with the brakes, 'til the clutch pops loose.

I am NOT suggesting you do this, as I don't know what your level of mechanical experience is, and if you can do this safely, I am just telling you how some folks who have been around this stuff all their lives sometimes do it. BE SAFE... don't try something unsafe, or something you cannot do safely! STARTING IN GEAR KILLS!

Bob: Thanks for the suggestion. We're thinking alike here. I have the clutch blocked. We'll see what happens. Correct, it is totally mechanical. Thanks for the disclaimer, of course, safety is always first and common sense is engaged.
